    Ontario:

Any recent issues issues with the city of Ontario and any feed back would be greatly appreaciated. My son and daughter is considering the start process.

Thanks and any suggestions or tips would be much appreaciated.

If they are planning on going to the city for permits, tell them not to bother. They should go directly to the sherriff for their permits. No need to be denied by city pd first. Ontario resident here and just got mine from the sherriff last month.

About a quarter of our class had three guns. I think it makes a lot of sense to put 3, since in most cases we have not carried any of our guns on a regular daily basis. In my case I've found that carrying my lcp makes more sense than carrying my lc380. Same capacity (extended lcp mag) and I've found that I am more accurate with the lcp. Add to that the size difference and the lcp is just a better edc for me. Had I only put two guns on my permit, it would have been the lc380 and nano (9mm), and i would not have found out I prefer the lcp.

I was called into HR and told that she received the paperwork from SBCSO and told me what it was for.

I REALLY wish they wouldn't have included that information.

Yeah mine was sent to my security managers office who took it upon herself to perform her own NCIC check before sending it back to SBSD...

She informed me that she put on the form that she could not comment on my character, as it's against company policy.

I was also talked to about "workplace violence" and given the written policy on it, and her interpretation of it. I did further searching, however, and found other written policy that contradicted her interpretation of the rules.

Yeah this part blows. If they must continue to contact they really shouldn't say what it's for. Should be confidential and left up to you to explain the reason.

Oh gee that happens from time to time because you son has a top secret clearance and they periodically check up his immediate family. Whatever to deflect and keep going without other questions and nobody thinking you are a nut.

This is why I haven't applied. I have been told by a superviser that a form like the one SbCo sends out would have to be filled out by the city attorney where I work and it would bring unwanted attention to me. Also, there is no guarantee the city attorney would even sent it back to them. The contacting of your employer and your neighbors is a hurdle i wish they would remove.

I all fairness, they do not tell your neighbors about the reason behind the inquiries, but they do tell your employer. It's a clear CYA policy by the SBSD for what they perceive may be the liability of not informing your employer (at times they seem to act on perception of self preservation more than on principle -perception mind you, not reality- ).

I know my employer wouldn't like the news one bit and frankly they are asking of some of us to risk our jobs so they can feel more politically comfortable, or alternatively asking some of us to forego a constitutional right (which of course the sheriff would diagree on because it's magically only a right if Peruta says so, and Pertua is not yet law). Then again, maybe it's this way just because we're not Arizona.

It's an interesting question and something I didn't have to go through.
I'd imagine they want to get a straight answer and see if folks are hotheads (or something) at work...

While not directly or legally liable even if the Sheriff gives you a permit, I can't imagine they would like to hear about how some idiot got his new permit and waved his gun in his bosses face...or worse.

                      Anyway, it's just a thought..
                      I'll ask.

I've met enough hotheads carrying with SB-issued CCWs to suspect that there has to be more to it than that. Anyway, can you please clarify in your question that the issue is not that they ask about your demeanor, it's that they let the employer know what you're applying to? Thanks.

I am just checking here to see if any of you guys know the answer. I already had my interview and now am waiting for my background check to go through. I have decided to change the guns that I will carry from what is on my original application. Do I have to notify my interviewer of my changes, or do I do this when I go to the range for training?
