No "activism" was suggested. We are just discussing the current status of the sheriff re. accepting SD as GC.

You're right, that was my mistake. But in the OP of the Fresno Co thread, you'll see embedded the below NRA video what Sheriff Mims herself says about the Good Cause requirement (at 2:13-24):

"It's discriminatory. No one should have to prove they deserve a Second Amendment right more than somebody else. That's why I believe that the just cause reason was unconstitutional."

If you go thru the last few pages of the Fresno Co thread, you will see Mims has been issuing consistent with her words (and oath).

So, while the Fresno SO website does NOT say SD = GC, what Sheriff Mims said about the GC requirement + the fact Sheriff Mims is issuing for SD as GC shows that the Fresno SO CCW policy is SD = GC. Ultimately, that's what matters.

I hate to sound like a dick, but instead of all this speculating, how about someone just apply and write "self defense" and get back to us? It's really not that hard.

        Agreed.

But should they fly off the handle when asked "what do you mean" in the interview? LOL

          Qualification day today:
Make sure you try to get there around 7:30 as it is not easy to find. Refer to this thread, page 29 to see a good satellite shot of where the classroom is. Class started at 8:00 with filling out paperwork (envelope for your $100 money order, range card and release of liability). Bring a pen. Next up was two hours of a PowerPoint presentation telling you about safe handling, your legal responsibilities being a a CCW card holder and what to expect if you have to use your weapon. There are a few interesting videos included in the presentation. The presentation is intended to be very open as questions were continually asked and answered throughout. This was followed by a 1/2 hour question and answer period. Break for 1.5 hour lunch at 11:00. This gives you enough time to go out for lunch if you didn't bring anything. We ended up on range 3 and were able to drive straight up to it. They started checking weapons around noon. They are looking for correct trigger weights, safety functions and lubrication. A guy in front of me had a trigger that was not resetting correctly. They did not allow him to qualify with that pistol. If you have spare parts for your pistol, you might bring them with you (in the car) just in case. It would suck to make it this far and have a malfunction disqualify the pistol you planned on carrying. The qualification is a proficiency test, not an accuracy test. 10 rounds per pistol (5 in each mag). Shooting a man size silhouette from 3 yards (target area is too large to miss from this range). They just want to make sure you know how to handle your pistol correctly (grip, mag release, slide stop, etc.). Even the worst shots I saw were in the target area. There is no time limit. A little old lady was there taking her sweet time qualifying away. Slow and steady. Congrats to her. They take those qualifying with 1 pistol first, 2 second and 3 last. You are instructed to grab your spare loaded mag and store it in your pocket. Then grab your pistol and second mag and make ready. The command "fire" is given and you let off 5 perform your mag change and then 5 more. They check to make sure you are unloaded and clear and then sign off on your range card for said pistol. Once your done, they sign off the bottom of your range card and you are good to go. They say to expect a 2-4 week lead time before you get the call to pick up your card but I've seen people here on Calguns say they got the call in 10 days. All in all, a very easy day (almost a shame going to the range to only get to fire 30 rounds though). If you passed the background check, you're going to pass the "qualification". Now the wait for the phone call.

Oh and I almost forgot: For those that intend to qualify with a DA/SA pistol, make sure you practice starting in DA. I'm used to inserting the mag, racking the slide and going to town. They will make you de-cock (if you can without pulling the trigger, of course) before starting your 10 shots. If you're not used to the DA mode, it makes for an interesting follow up shot.

How about shooting a revolver? Where there anybody in your group have to shoot a revolver?

Revolvers still have to do a reload. Shoot from DA.
I'd suggest speed loaders but some folks don't use them. It's not timed, but it can still get nerve wracking to reload one at a time while up at the firing line...

i had questions on online application
                  on the website here http://cms.sbcounty.gov/Portals/34/C...uctions914.pdf
it says to fill out section 7

on the application itself, it says not to. so which is it?

also, after i print the application and hit submit, nothing happens. Should i get a confirmation or anything? i just hit the button and it literally does nothing.

You should call them and ask. I asked the same things six months ago and they said to complete section 7, but that may have changed. When you hit the submit button I believe it is supposed to open up your default email and attach a file to an email. It didn't work for me but they have since said they fixed it. Either way, just call and ask.

Fill out section 7 but do not sign, they will have you sign in front of them.

I did mine in October and had the same problem with the form not submitting. It depends on how your email is set up. I just called and explained on a voicemail. They called me back the next day to schedule the interview. But in the interim, I got the submit to work. I think you need to be in the official Adobe reader application, then it will ask if you use webmail or a desktop email program. Webmail it saves a file to your hard drive which you them attach to an email message.

But they were very nice and helpful. I think the submit just gives them a heads up with the info when it works. My interview was last week. I filledour 7 ahead of time but didn't sign anything. The detective went over it in the interview then we both signed. I brought 2 copies so I could have one and he signed my copies as well. They worked hard to get me through quickly because I also had a doctor appointment afterwards. Overall it was a simple process with no stress. Just be honest. That's the big thing he was concerned with.

In my 2013 class it went something like this,
                              1 gun = you're poor
                              2 guns = OK
                              3 guns = you're rich

It's good to have at least 2 guns on your CCW. Due to the fact that it will get confiscated if used in a shooting...
