Also if you can catch Jon's NRA Defensive Handgun class at AVGC, it'll be the best $100 you will ever spend on training.

Got a call at 3pm my permit was ready to pick up. So I boogied down the hill, hit up the post office for a money order and picked up my permit before they closed at 4pm. I am now a legal concealed carry guy. Now on to more training. I'm thinking about gunsite 350 in March! Oh ya they seriously won't accept a money order from anywhere but the post office.
Yes.. To anyone going through this.. Do yourself a favor and ONLY purchase postal money orders.. That is all they going to accept for the range qualification and upon pickup of permit.. We had quite a few people with cashiers checks and grocery store money orders. Those were not taken. If you take one peice of advice please pay for EVERY step of this process with postal money orders.. It will make your life much easier.

Kind of ironic that for renewal, we can't carry in the only place we can secure payment.

I have my appointment on the 18th. What kinds of things do they ask you? My appointment is at 8:00am and I'll have to go to work right afterwards. I wear a uniform to work. Should I wear my uniform or Street close?

                Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

You are going to an interview.

Expect to be there between 2 and 3 hours depending on the wait time for the livescan... I'd plan for work at noon and change into the uniform.
Personally, I took a vacation day, but I work well over an hour from the office.

You will complete a form with an additional 50(?) questions, and space on the back and additional pages to explain any "Yes" answers.
Questions cover drug/alcohol/criminal activity history, conflict resolution/confrontation, temperament, LE contact, crimes you may have reported or been the victim of, association with gangs.

It's all pretty basic stuff, but each question begins "Have you ever" and my interviewer stated "Emphasis on *ever*"

This. Its an interview. Dress for it. I was in a collared shirt, tie and slacks. I had deputy Perrea interview me and give the range qualification. He was very cool and laid back during the interview. What ever you do, answer honestly. If you dont, they will find out.

You never have a second chance to make a good first impression.

Show both your seriousness and respect for the process by dressing up a little.

If your the kind of guy that deserves your LTC, leave them no doubts by showing up dressed accordingly.

Appreciate all of you guys posting up pointers and your experiences. 6 more long months before the appointment comes for me.

Hey Calgunners. I have 2 questions. #1 Does any one have a picture or diagram of what we will be shooting at on range day? #2 I'm somewhere around 115 days post interview. A week ago I called the DOJ hotline to check on my background check and the hotline stated my federal and state background were pending. Today I called and the hotline said it had nothing in the system for me. What do you think that could mean? Complete?

                            Thanks.

Target is a standard B27 (accurate human size) at 5 yards.
Successful hit area is inside the 7 ring above the "X", so your aim-point should actually be the midpoint between the 8 and the 9.

                              5 rounds
Unload and show clear (on command).
                              No time limit.
Pass is 8 hits in the target zone and no safety violations.
