So here's a question on legalities. I picked up my permit yesterday. The dates on it say that it's good from 8/1/2016 to 8/1/2018. Should I wait until 8/1 to start carrying, or am I within my legal right to start carrying now?

This will give you a chance to accustom yourself to your carry method and tweak the location if necessary.

Until you have carried all day, your ideas of how and where to carry are driven more by fashion and less by function.

Try watching TV to see how your carry method works sitting down, standing up, bending over, reaching, etc...

This will make your Monday carry less stressful and make you more relaxed in public.

Ya there is no rhyme or reason to the time. A week ago someone's permit was ready in like 3 days. I had my range day BEFORE them. I'm just just happy to get it whenever.

That's so bizzare.. As you probably saw with my timeline, I was 1/13/16 application 3/18 interview, 7/25 range day and was called 4 days later to pickup permit.. No rhyme or reason at all.

Ya ya, Bribing the issuing agency should be against the "good moral character" clause lol

Got a call at 3pm my permit was ready to pick up. So I boogied down the hill, hit up the post office for a money order and picked up my permit before they closed at 4pm. I am now a legal concealed carry guy. Now on to more training. I'm thinking about gunsite 350 in March! Oh ya they seriously won't accept a money order from anywhere but the post office.
