Since Sheriff Sniff told the position of County sheriff in 2007, the amount of issued CCW permits have steadily increased. He stated this week that the County CCW permits currently issued are at 2,100 permits plus 408 currently in process. Now if my memory serves me right, last year we were at about 1,700 permits issued.

Riverside County pop. is about 2.2 million, lets see, L.A. County pop. around 10 million with about 500 CCW current issued permits. And I would not hold my breath applying for counties like San Diego and Orange.

We are not living in AZ or TX, this CA and I for one as a CA resident feel lucky and thankful that I reside in Riverside County. I have never met Sheriff Sniff, but if I ever do I will be proud to shake his hand.

And I could imagine getting denied and going through the appeal process is no picnic.
Well, isn't that just great that you feel so lucky but why should I feel lucky? Have you read the bill of rites lately? It says I don't need no stinkin' permit.

Yeah, it doesn't say that. At least that's not how the courts interpret it. Which is all that matters.

Mark, I know your appeal is almost a year now and now they are telling you that you might have to reapply. Have you thought emailing or writing Sheriff Sniff a letter and explaining your situation and especially the long wait you have gone through?

I know some things are not right/fair in CA, gun control, CCW "good cause VS shall issue", taxes, etc. If I didn't have so many ties in CA, I would move to AZ. My point is we are lucky to have a Sheriff that is pro 2nd amendment and pro CCW, he doesn't have to be, but he is. I moved here from L.A., while residing there I never thought of even trying to apply for a CCW, go figure.

                Firefox....

I have but always thought why bother as he has his Lt. in the CCW dept do his deciding for him based on what I assume is his requirements for approval. So if the Lt. denies someone, it's based on what the Sheriff has told him to deny.

BUT!, you have lit a fire suggesting it again. I might just do it.

Yes, maybe if you drive down there and ask the deputies respectively, to speak with the Lt. and bring your appeal paperwork with you, maybe there's a chance the Lt. will look into your case while you are there. It might hurt to bring a box of donuts with you. Just my 2 cents.

you musta had a bad conviction.. I got mine with a DUI about 10 years ago .. I do know that there are two different types of crimes (theres a term for it that I cannot remember) crimes that are of "mistake in nature" like a DUI.. were I drank 1 too many and blew over.. and crimes of "planned nature".. say like you got busted for selling narcotics and pleaded down to a Misd.

It does differ in how they will assess your morals and values.

lucky I dont drink anymore LOL my DMV is clear but I am scared if I move to a different county, they will deny me the same...

EDIT..... BTW the two deputies that are running that unit now are great guys.. easy to work with and do not run you through the ringer... just be friendly and honest with them if you email or make an appointment.

Not sure if this info would be handy to anyone, but I figure it would at least satisfy some curiosity.

                      Contacted RSO-CCW Dept. on 13AUG 2016.
                      Appointment scheduled for **JAN 2019

                      2 years, 5 months.

                      Good luck studs.

Can someone who's already been to their appointment tell us how long the actual appointment lasted. I'm wondering how many they do in a day to be booked up for two years.

In the last year around 400 permits have been issued and there are currently over 400 in process. That comes out to over 30 issued a month. Now bear in mind that not every appt becomes a permit. Also people schedule appointments and no show. There is also more to issuing the permits than just completing appointments. There are background checks that are done that have to be compiled and filed.

I'm sure if you have a question regarding the CCW process and if it can be more efficient the Lt would be happy to take your call and hear your suggestions on how he can do his job better.

No reason to get so snarky about it. I just asked a simple question. I'm not suggesting that someone is not doing their job.

Sorry about the snark. This is just a topic that's been hashed out in this thread a few times.

And as long as the wait times stay as long as they are it will continue to brought up from time to time.
