I did my training at FTA in September. I wanted to make sure it was hot while I was training you know, just for fun.....I was confident that my GC was G2G.

GC = work related, Employer signed off with no restrictions. I did all the letters an filled out both forms. My past is squeaky clean and boring so it was very easy.

Thanks to all that made me get off my butt and get this done. Hopefully Self Defense will be be accepted in the future.

Deputy Aguirre told me the renewal process is much quicker, and they schedule renewals as priority, plus no livescan. File just goes straight upstairs for approval. Only thing required every renewal is ccw class and range qualification.

Well here is my timeline...
03-02-14 Completed ccw class at Fta

03-03-14 Called ccw unit for appointment

06-30-14 Interview (all paper work/reference letters with "self defense" as good cause statement)

07-09-14 Livescan done

09-02-14 called for status of app,was told it's with admin.

09-17-14 Recieved my denial letter (I Believe I was the first one denied for "self defense")

12-17-14 called ccw unit and resubmitted my app without any changes. ("Self defense" is still my good cause).

01-20-15 Got the call that my permit was approved and ready for pick up. Was atleast 3 other permits there also ready for pick up.

I was going to go through the process before the peruta ruling and fixriverside and had my good cause statement written out. my interview appointment was a couple days away when i saw the fixriverside movement and contacted Brandon at CGF to see how i could help.
I volunteered and opted to ditch my articulated good cause statement for the 2 simple words "Self defense".
I have watched this thread a bit and figured I would now contribute to it. Hope it helps.

Very simple process. The deputies were very professional and polite. I'm hoping the renewal process is as simple as others have stated. Thanks calguns for the info and updates.

I also have a non-resident ccw for Arizona and it had no impact on my California ccw approval.

Is the work form mandatory? I really like to keep my personal business to myself.

Here is my timeline:
July 14th 2014 - called ccw left message requesting interview

July 16th 2014 - deputy Aguirre called me back and gave me November 18th
For interview. I requested him mail me the packet received that about 1 week later.

November 18th 2014 - (my birthday btw) - interview appointment @ 1030am was delayed due to bomb threat on the building! Got in around 12pm. Smooth interview, deputy Aguirre asked me about 2 questions, but was mostly quiet as he put my application one page at a time into a new folder. He said my good cause should be fine as he had seen people with much less than mine get approved and that I shouldn't be worried. Scheduled ccw class and range date.

Nov 18th 2014 - did livescan at temecula substation.

Nov 21st 2014 -submitted work notification form

Dec 3rd 2014 - started new dros on my off roster shield via temecula pawn.

Dec 6th 2014 - ccw class at Ben Clark. Was there for maybe 2 hours at most.

Dec 17th 2014 - range qualifications at Ben Clark.

Feb 6th 2015 - come pick it up!

I never received a call when my file was sent up to admin for approval. But I did email deputy Aguirre jan 13th to get an update and was told my file is with admin waiting for approval and he expected it to be back in about 2 weeks.
My good cause was not work related, and my job does not let me carry.
About 7 months total
Little over 11 weeks from interview.

I won't say it's mandatory. But I don't know of anyone that has successfully avoided turning it in.

I declined to fill out the work form, and asked that my employer not be contacted. I think that they will require the work form for a work-related good cause statement, but since my good cause statement is simply "Self Defense", I don't think it's any of my employer's business. (And I won't be carrying or transporting on company property even if approved).

I still don't know whether I'll be approved or denied, and I don't know whether they have or will contact my employer.

I just skimmed the RSO packet on the RSO CCW page, and I didn't see the employer notification form. Maybe it's something that the interviewer drags out, that's not included in the packet? I don't recall clearly; I just recall that I declined to fill it out, and asked that my employer not be contacted.
