The OCSD's website explains it pretty well. Look over some old OC threads and that should help. They're taking 4-5 months to approve renewals so you're not going to be able to carry for a few months it sounds like.
Thanks for the help. I spoke with the receptionist at OCSD and she did tell me that I would need a "good cause" to renew. Being that I can't meet any of the criteria set by the dept for a good cause it looks like I won't be getting my permit renewed...that blows!

Your criteria doesn't have to exactly fit what's outlined on the OCSD website. You can't articulate any level of good cause at all? If you can, it's worth a shot...

Dig into some of the old threads and you'll see what people came up with. With that said, you'll need to be able to prove whatever you put down if they happen to ask. For instance, some have said they travel to/camp in remote areas with extended LE response. You may be asked to provide receipts, or something else proving said activity.

Thanks one example. Again, spend some time looking through some old threads and you might get some ideas. At the very least put something down. You may get a call from a deputy saying you need more. Some have reported that they've even been given hints by the deputy as to what will fly.

Followed up with my CCW application and my investigator said he submitted my packet for review on 1/27/17. Any idea how long it takes to get approved or denied once submitted for approval? I still need to take the CCW course. Thanks!

Personally, I would take the training and get LiveScsnned if you haven't done so already. Your file being submitted is a good sign, it means the investigatior felt your CG was gtg.

Sorry I should have been more clear. I had my initial interview 9/2016, did the Livescan, and had the residence check completed. He told me to follow up 1/2017 if i hadn't heard from him. I recently followed up and he told me he submitted everything for approval on 1/27/17.

I wanted to know how long I can exepct to hear back about getting approved. Then I will take my CCW course. Thanks!

It's been a month so I would expect with a week or two. As I was trying to say in my other post, since you've made it this far I think you're good to take your course. Sure, it's a bit of a risk but the odds are in your favor.

Do NOT give up on the renewal. I have a friend that was issued a CCW in March 2015 and got his on a PP and SD when they were issuing. I talked to him on a few occasions and was asking me regarding what he needed as a GC. I told him that no matter how trivial or stupid the reason was, he needed to write it/them down and also provide proof or documentation supporting his argument or claim. Of course he gets the renewal appointment, went down and sat with the interviewer, they looked at the statement, they officer said "great I'll submit this and you should be good!". Guess what? They renewed it and he couldn't believe it. Bottom line, what you think is trivial and unimportant, for OCSD it's enough. Also consider this, you already have one! You have a leg up on the new applicants. I'm not sure if this holds any weight, but I'm sure it doesn't hurt you.

I'll add my encouragement. I was resigned to not being renewed, but after reviewing a number of posts /threads here, I submitted a three tier GCS with documentation, and was approved. Don't be intimidated by the word "documentation". It isn't strictly limited to direct threats against you by another person, and it isn't limited to providing bank statements showing large cash deposits or carrying valuable equipment. You can do this. But don't dawdle--you don't want to wait on the DOJ again.

Need some input. Had my initial interview 9/2016 and had my packet submitted for approval 1/28/17. I just followed up and they told me it is still pending review.

I have a friend who had their initial interview 12/2016 and just received his conditional approval 3/2017.

How did he get his so quickly and mine is taking longer? Our good causes are pretty much the same, just different investigators.

                                Hi Folks -

First I would like to thank all of you for your posts about this process and updates on timeline. The many words of encouragement here have finally convinced this law-abiding, responsible, average joe gun-owner to move forward on obtaining my CCW in Orange County.

                                So:

                                3/5/17 online request sent
3/6/17 email confirmation of interview set for 10/27/17

Looks like similar to 3gman and MFW, I'm in it for at least a 12-month process. May the good Lord give me the patience and wisdom to fight for my constitutional rights and make it through the process!!!
