    Update amendment

    02/16/2024 application submitted
03/25/2024 application approved. Awaiting to call them tomorrow to submit payment and then receive new license in the mail.

Are we allowed to carry the new gun since its approved now before the new license comes in the mail?

No. Since your current permit doesn?t have it listed, you have to wait until you physically have the new one to start carrying it.

Along with 9Cal_OC's comment, SB 2 added the need to have the license on you when carrying:
26200. (a) While carrying a firearm as authorized by a license issued pursuant to this chapter, a licensee shall not do any of the following:
        []
        (7) Fail to carry the license on their person

Wanted to share my renewal timeline for my license to expire 5/7/24.

I have renewed a few times before, but this was the first renewal post-Bruen decision and the 2024 SB2 requirements. I probably would have received my license a little sooner (few days earlier possibly), but a couple things happened - I skipped the references section at first and forgot to come back and fill out in renewal app before I submitted. Submitted the references 2 weeks later to be "proactive" so CCW Unit would not have to remind me later, but lol they notified me for something else below.

          11/26 Completed renewal training course.
          1/8 Renewal App Submitted
1/24 Submitted character references through Permitium.
3/19 Notified via email to submit different residence document. Submitted within minutes of receipt.
3/24 Received email and automated text for approval. Was given instructions to email and wait or try to call in during business hours if you can get through. Sent email to "get into queue for payment".
3/26 Called into office and paid over phone. Was told it would be 3-5 business days for delivery of license.
          3/29 Received license in mail.

Are they actually calling the character references? I figured renewals wouldn't need to deal with that crap since you've already been a clearly safe carrying permit holder for at least 2 years. I just wanna know when the time comes if I should tell those people to expect a call. Also what happens if your references don't answer? Haha it's so stupid

Huh - just got the call to pay on my renewal.

Started at 89 days out and my current license expires May 19th - month and 16 days early.

Not a bad turnaround time. 🤷*♂️

Hey Lost Cause, I feel like they did not contact and I agree with you that it is lame. Just another thing to check off the list and the staff has to "review".

I checked in with my references and they said they did not receive any contact from the department. Idk maybe the weather was nice outside or something lol.

Again, character references are only needed if they interview you.

26202(b)(2) In-person, virtual, or telephonic interviews with at least three character references, at least one of whom must be a person described in subdivision (b) of Section 273.5, if applicable, and at least one of whom must be the applicant?s cohabitant, if applicable. For renewal applications, the licensing authority may elect to forgo this requirement.
ATF Form 4473: If a frame or receiver can only be made into a long gun (rifle or shotgun), it is still a frame or receiver, not a handgun or long gun.

I picked up a Sig 365 Saturday, first time shooting it was today, 6/4, and I just uploaded the add a gun documents. I will post again when there is a development.

Has anyone tried going in person to pay? I got my renewal approval 8 days ago and replied to the email requesting a call back. I've also called every other day, to pay on the phone, and haven't reached anyone nor received any response to my email requesting a call back for payment.

You have to keep calling. I called every 15 minutes until someone picked up. Start early.

How long did it take from submitting your renewal application to getting approval? I submitted all of my renewal info not too long ago and I'm looking for current renewal timelines. Thanks

Anyone submit add a gun recently? I put in the app and it's been sitting on "order started" since 6/4.
