I respectfully disagree. It does hurt, both on principal and cost, because the cost will be double now and it is more red tape that CA is implementing to stop us from realizing our rights.
An 8 hour course still meets the requirements. The training course must be a minimum of 8 hours and a maximum of 16 hours for new applicants and only 4 hours for renewals. Some providers may offer 8 hour courses and some may offer 16 hour courses and some may offer both. Either will meet the requirements. The 16 hour courses will obviously offer more training but will cost more as well. Some applicants may prefer the additional training of a 16 hour course but if not, an 8 hour course is offered by many providers as well.

From the Orange County Sheriff’s Landing Page:
      REQUIRED TRAINING/INSPECTION(S)

-New applicants must complete an 8-16 hour course.
-Renewal applicants must complete a 4 hour course.
-All listed firearms must be inspected to ensure it is in a safe, legal, and operable condition.
-Applicant must complete a live fire course for every firearm listed on the permit.
-Training/inspection(s) must be completed at an approved training provider.
-A list of Training Providers can be downloaded below, under Related Files.
-CCW’s will not be issued until the training is complete.

Like everyone else is pointing out, my interview was originally scheduled for 11/3 and now got pushed up to 4/24. Doing my training and live scan next weekend at Evan's Gun World.

Interested in current experience with timing of renewals.

I submitted everything 1/10/23 and as of today have heard nothing back. No particular rush, but on my first renewal, they went way over 90 days and i had no permit for several weeks.

I have a question regarding having Your firearm in your vehicle if you have a CCW permit.
Can you have your firearm on your person and loaded?

                    Good Cause on App

When I applied, August 2022, good cause was still on the application even thought it was N/A. I filled is a few things for good cause but was never really sure if it would be considered enough. I filled it in because it was on the app and I thought I needed to be thorough.

My understanding is that this section has now been removed from app.

I have an interview coming up in a week and wondered what you all thought I should say if i am asked about good cause and the statements that I wrote down. Also, anyone else fill out good cause because it was on the app even after it became not applicable?

                    Thank you.

When I renewed last year (after the GC issue became moot) I filled out the field just as I had done in prior submissions. My view was, regardless of the ruling in NYSRPA vs. Bruen, nothing had changed with regard to my personal GC submission, and had I submitted something else-- e.g., "general self defense"-- that could be viewed as a tacit admission that what was previously submitted was somehow no longer applicable, or somehow partially untrue, or whatever. It seemed good to me to simply keep on keeping on.

It is fair to say that a majority rank-and-file LEOs are generally in favor of law-abiding folk being armed, for a variety of reasons. Sheriff Barnes has stated publicly that they approve something like 98% of applications, so I don't think the interviewers are in any way hostile, they are just being careful and thorough so as to avoid unnecessary hassles from bureaucrats who are hostile to citizens being lawfully armed.

Thank you, very helpful. Did they ask you about or even mention the good cause?

This is my first CCW so I am wondering if they do ask, would I be best served as saying something like, "My understanding is that GC is no longer valid and that CA is a "Shall Issue" state.

There is no interview when you renew, so no opportunity to ask.

Why would they ask, if the issue is moot? But if they did, why would you not go with what you already submitted on the form? They want honesty and candor.

They did ask me about my GC when I interviewed, and even suggested some refinements to make it stronger. Again, the majority of rank-and-file LEOs are favorably inclined to law-abiding people being lawfully armed. One of the interviewers even asked, "Is your wife or any family members interested in applying for a permit? Do you have any friends who might be interested in applying?"
