Update: finally got my approval yesterday exactly 1 mo after my permit expired... I sent an email yesterday morning inquiring about my status and then received a text msg and email confirming my renewal approval later in the day...now just have to wait for the phone call to pay and the mail out... I think mine got overlooked but much appreciate OCSD professionalism in handling my case ASAP after my second inquiry... good luck to those still in limbo

        i accept this explanation.

I wonder if i would have had to wait the ~60 day if I just submitted my docs/pics the day they asked. the request sat for a month because I got busy.

I'm currently in the process of obtaining my CCW for CA, via Orange County. My interview date is 11/17/21. I listed my GC as "hiking, outdoors, etc.". I have plenty of pictures that include myself hiking and backpacking in remote areas of California however, OCSD requested that I obtain a "travel log of areas recently traveled to". I'm a little confused on how to go about this, since I've never used or kept a travel log and I don't generally document each time I visit somewhere, except for maybe a few pictures.

Is this common for others who have used a similar GC as I did?

          Thanks.

I would like to have everything done by my interview in late January so wanted to make sure I'm doing things right!
            1. Sign up for a training class (thinking about going with Artemis Defense Institute) in December. Upload the certificate after the training.
            2. Get live scan done from the list provided by the CCW website (looks like I can go to the Fullerton PD for live scan). Only thing I have to fill out are the parts highlighted in yellow, correct?

Can't go wrong with Artemis. If you travel out of CA at all consider doing multi-state. It costs extra but you walk out their door with everything you need for AZ, UT, and/or FL. They will roll your prints, take your pics... very convenient.

In past runs of their CCW class they have picked one or two people to go through their VirTra 300 while everyone watches the scenario and the debrief. Interesting and thought-provoking. Obviously they want to sell you additional training; in years past, Black Friday deals have been available for around half price. In my experience, their instructors are very good, and with ammo priced as dearly as it is, what they offer is now much more competitive.

I have even taken family members there for training in the VirTra 300 and it was excellent. A great experience.

No idea regarding your second question, it has been a while since I had to deal with that. Sorry...

So I've had a few renewals and this year has been the longest wait time.

                License expiration date 10.22.21

                7.18.21 submitted application
                7.19.21 documents submitted
                7.31.21 training submitted
8.25.21/9.12.21 password reset to check status
10.11.21 reached out to CCWPermits@ocsd.org on status. Am told timeframe is 90-120 days and they are back up with influx of submissions and COVID.
10.12.21 replied with a thank you.
11.11.21 no word yet. Payment has not been refunded or anything.
                12.5.21 payment refunded.

Website status changed from "assigning to processor" too "assigned".

Just got mine, new applicant. 6 months to the day, start to finish.

To serve as an additional data point,

                  w/o 05/16 applied, interview w/o 10/10
w/o 10/03 first update - requested livescan and additional documentation.
w/o 10/10, interview - reviewed application, confirmed answers and went over some common questions.
                  w/o 10/24, class & qualification.
                  w/o 11/07, uploaded training certification.
w/o 11/14. received permit in the mail.

Really appreciate that OCSO is issuing CCW's.

                    .
It should be fine to do the livescan and training before the interview date, correct? And as for the livescan, do I just follow the instructions on their website (print out the form and go to any of the authorized livescan places)? Thanks!

You can do the livescan. I'm just a moron and didn't realize the livescan request form is literally the first page of the packet you print out at the end of your application. I had to ask where to get the form when they asked (it's on their site). The trainer I use requests you have approval before taking the class and qualifying.

Practically though, I didn't want to spend any money until I heard something back, in case my application was rejected outright.

                        OC CCW Employment change

My employer / job is listed on my CCW. If this changes and I get a new job, do I have to inform the CCW unit?

                        Thanks.

Perhaps this question was already asked, if so please point me in the right direction. I'm in the process of applying for the CCW in Orange County. What are the elements of a good "good cause" statement?

                                I think it depends.

If your employment is part of your GC, then it could be material and when you renew, it would have to be disclosed and the GC possibly modified as needed.

For example, if you work as a pharmacist and move from one retail pharmacy to another, quite possibly the GC would not need to be changed. You would be submitting a paystub and the change would be communicated through that and through the relevant fields on the application. Not a material change.

On the other hand, supposed you owned a business and had incorporated that into your GC, and you maybe sold the business or shut it down, and got a different job, then presumably that could be material and, again, when you renew, you would modify the GC statement as needed.

But if your work is not part of your GC, then when you renew, the change will be captured by the relevant fields in the application form.
