Just heard back from Stacy. My application is still with the Sheriff because I live in unincorporated county. She said there is a new undersheriff and they are getting everything set up. So, it should be soon.
I know people are getting frustrated, but it seems that they are doing what they can to get it together.

Wow, I think I remember the undersheriff being appointed/ hired about a month after the new Sheriff - saw the article in the IJ, so still getting everything set up months later?? amazing

      Good luck

Will say that we definitely SEEM to have it better in marin than in other bay area counties based upon posts in those threads but still......

So does this mean you can apply with your local PD? I thought all Marin county police depts. shuffled CCW to the Sheriffs dept.
Being in San Rafael, I can't believe the Chief would issue a CCW. I would love to be wrong.

The sheriff's office is overwhelmed, so they are asking the local PDs to do the work for their cities. If you are in an unincorporated area, probably will have to go to the Sheriff.

Note, be sure to send in a copy of your training certificate. My permit was delayed because I did not email the certificate.

Last time I looked at the Marin Sheriff's website (a new Sheriff after 20 years), their CCW section indicated that they have revised their application to comply with the latest SCOTUS ruling which disallows the "good cause" question. As of the other day, it has been eliminated from the application. Perhaps that is the reason they are being inundated with applications?

Know that in the interview, one of the first "new" questions will be, "so why do you want a CCW permit?" Sound the tiniest bit familiar?

The answer is "Would you have asked Rosa Parks why she wanted to sit in the front of the bus?"

I was told to put down protection or self protection, if that was the reason for my application. The new sheriff was very reasonable, and my permit came through.

Had my interview with undersheriff moir and it was a very relaxed and easy process. She made it seem that as long as everything on your background checked out that you would be issued a permit. Also if you completed all the other steps such as the training and physiological interview. She did also mention that the hold up at the moment is with the DOJ and the live scan processing.

Any Marin updates, Sheriff catching up - speeding up the process? How are things with those going through the various chiefs of police?

Curious how many permits have been issued so far.

Ummm. The chief of police and I butted heads, to say the least. I asked him (in writing) to get with the city attorney and provide me the link to the text, history, and tradition requiring a police dept pysch exam, three character references, and the good moral character determination from 1791. I included quests from the NYSRPA decision stating any requirements had to be sourced from that, and that any evaluations had to be objective (IE GMC). I asked what the specific criteria for GMC was. I pointed out the irregularities in their process (asking me to take the pysch test before the background check, for example). My application was denied. In the new year I am going to begin again, following the same process, along with the question: "so if I am in a life or death fight for my life in public, you believe I should not have the right to defend myself and I should die?" I don't expect to be approved, obviously.

My concern is in your frustration-driven quest to jack up the Chief, you'll spoil the ground for others trying to get their CCW. Please keep that in mind and as you contemplate going scorched earth and all.

                              Valid concern!

OP whereas I can respect where you are coming from you will ensure that you will never be granted a permit and likely create further issues for others.

If you truly want a permit I suggest playing along to get along because it has never been this good before and if you wait too long it may very well change for the worse. Though I object to some of what Marin requires on a personal and constitutional basis, looking at SF or some of the other areas / subforums, we have it far better than many.
