Accepted CCW instruction for Marin County

Question for those lucky few in Marin who have a CCW - which school or instructor did you go to for the approved training? Based on the decision from SCOTUS today I expect classes to fill up shortly.

I’d be genuinely surprised if anything changes with Doyle. He’s probably anticipating getting sued and still denying permits. Or waiting for CA to change their laws for novel ways to screw people out of their rights. Keep an eye on the document I posted above for substantive changes in policy.

There hasn’t been any sort of press release like other sheriffs have put out on the ruling. Makes me think he’s going to stall for time until there is another potential way to give him an out. Maybe things will change under Scardina, but Marin will probably have to be dragged into court for any real change.

But, please do apply as that is the only way to have standing in a suit. Gun Owners of California has potentially suggested that they may fund, in-part, actions against sheriffs that refuse to comply with SCOTUS and Bruen.

I sent in my application via email yesterday. I asked about Fees (since there's no info to how much), training (since no info either), and GC. Didn't get a response on those points yet

They did respond and let me know that 3 reference letters (non-family) are required, as well as now a psych eval done with a psychologist that they referred me to. But again did not answer my questions I asked in the original email

I agree, although that may require a separate lawsuit to eliminate those requirements. If they drop GC as the main barrier, I'd consider jumping through the hoops anyways for the sake of time, with the hope that a lawsuit does eventually get them to drop those two reqs

I applied on Sunday, have not heard anything back yet. I emailed the incoming sheriff Jamie Scardinia and asked if he was planning on abiding by the SCOTUS decision, or weather he would wait for court challenges to be heard.

Jamie replied "The CCW process and application can be found on our website at marinsheriff.org".

I am sure he is super busy getting ready to start his new position, but hopefully this helps him be aware that people are aware of their rights.

Most likely extremely busy. Submitting my app soon as well. Best of luck to you. I hear great things about Scardina, we'll see. Being hopeful.

Just be aware that AG Bonta just doxed all CCW holders in the state. If you do not want your information becoming public record, including sensitive PII, please take a moment to reflect on whether an application makes sense, in your individual case.

His actions are clearly an intimidation tactic, so take it for what it’s worth to you.

Saw and read that article released. Tactical move no doubt. None the less, will still apply and go from there. Appreciate all the information from you and other parties posting information.

Curious who did you send it into? I tried to walk mine in and was told all apps had to go through Stacey Bakke who so far isnt answering the phone or email.

The app on the sheriff's website has several questions that have to be answered in front of a sheriff as a witness right?

Curious about the "great things" you heard about him. I heard he is a Doyle clone and will pretty much keep things the same if not make them worse now as far as CCW goes.

I emailed it to Stacy, but have not heard back. She may be overwhelmed with applications. I have stored my outgoing email to her, in the event that the county does not comply and there is a lawsuit.

Also I entered her email address in my software, so that mail that comes from her does not go into the spam folder.

Only the first three pages get filled out online. The other pages are filled out in person, probably by the interviewer. I have requested three letters of recommendation from friends, so will have that ready when the time comes.

Follow up, I did daily until I heard back and yes according to her she is buried with requests. They wont move to the next step (completing the final questions on the App) until you submit character references and complete your psych review - in other words they are making it go as slowly as they can.
