Deputy was friendly but very rushed to get me in and out as he says they are very busy: he said he was assigned to the CCW unit 5 weeks ago, and as of today, they have 700 more applications to go through.

He said the CCW permit is very coveted, and even he doesn't always carry, because it's a very big responsibility. The vibe I got from him is that they are being very discerning with the interview and background.

He said after the interview, he writes a summary of it for the Sgt or Lt of the CCW unit to review. He said after he has interviewed everyone this week, he sends their packets next Monday, for review. He says there are 3 possible outcomes:

    1. Sgt/Lt approves GC. Expect Livescan to take 6-8 weeks because DOJ is slammed right now. Like SavageShooter said, this deputy also reiterated they don't care what the Livescan online status is. It may take up to 4 weeks, before they receive the results from DOJ. If Livescan comes back clear, I will not hear from him again, but from another unit responsible for following up with training.

    2. The only time I will hear back from him, is if Sgt/Lt is on the fence about my GC, and he will contact me to ask for more documentation.

    3. Sgt/Lt does not approve GC, and I will receive a denial letter.

He said do not try to contact them unless I haven't received any word from them within 8 weeks.

    -----

Now for specifics about my situation:

    1. Because I am in the firearms industry, the deputy says my GC is pretty cut and dry. He wasn't even interested in my crimemapping.com printouts, LAPD crime stats or news stories of shootings in my neighborhood I printed out. "Crime is up everywhere" he said.

    2. For question #6, re: restraining order, I thought it meant have I ever been the restrained person, and answered no. But he said, the question means if you are a party to any restraining order, and as a protected person in one, I should have answered "yes".

    3. I have 2 traffic tickets and a suspension from some years back. Totally my fault and I accept it, and he said these might hurt my chances.

    4. At the end, there were a lot of yes/no questions to things like "have you ever been fired/terminated from a job? Why?", "have you ever been in a fight as an adult?". I feel like even though there'd be no easy way to find out about these things, it was better to be completely honest. One question "Are you seeing a psychologist or psychiatrist?" I answered honestly, that I see a therapist, and he asked what kind and for what. And it's for nothing serious...just relationship/work advice, etc. but I feel like there's still a stigma about saying you're getting therapy.

So, basically, I was super optimistic going in, and how he felt my GC was a no-brainer, to leaving the interview in doubt, with many of the things regarding my background, that he delved into.

It is ultimately decided by the Sgt/Lt of the CCW unit, based on what the interviewing deputy writes in their summary of the interview.

The deputy let me update the list of 3 guns, with a new gun I just got (he asked me multiple times if the gun is already in my possession...ie. will show up in the firearms record search of the livescan) and encouraged me to get the livescan done right away. Whether my GC gets approved or not, I'm still happy I went through the process and good luck to all!
Are all of these interview questions standard. For the folks who have had their interview, can you confirm?

Looks like word has gotten out and they were definitely hit with an influx of applications. Unfortunately looks like most of those who applied didn’t quite do their homework and approval rate has dropped quite a bit.

For those who haven’t applied yet please put in the time to read this thread and up your odds. Good luck.

Wow, what is that, like a 65% denial rate, or does that include people they haven't gotten to yet, I wonder? Guess I just hope I'm in the pending file

That's an insane denial rate and quite the change from before. Maybe it isn't marked as "pending" til a deputy is assigned, and a lot are still just in that check-cashing phase?

If not, that's nuts. Has anyone on here confirmed they were denied? Seems like we should have some denials by now, even among our better-informed crowd of applicants on CalGuns, if that many are getting turned down overall.

Fingers crossed on my app I guess...

65% denial rate is not a good sign for us. So odd to me that not a SINGLE person has publicly stated they received a denial letter if that is the case.
Yeah, I just edited my post. You could be absolutely right; the big pile could be people who have yet to interview. Would love to know what the denial rate is.

I don't recall anywhere on Calguns where someone said they have been denied. Of course, they might be reluctant to do so. If I am, I will report back to the Peanut gallery.

Ya I will too if I'm denied. No reason to hide it.

Hope SCOTUS actually helps us next year by at least saying "Shall Issue" is the law of the land (I know constitutional carry is a reach). I fear a much more narrow ruling with some BS that the denials just can't be "arbitrary", which will just get us better written denial letters lol.

Absurd that your gun rights under the second amendment are so heavily influenced by what state/city you live in.

I think you have to take into account that word has gotten out to the general public. They are the majority, not calguns members. Most people who saw the news report probably applied with nothing more than a sentence saying self defense. They probably make up a good amount of the recent applications.

The amount of people who have reported on here that they have received a permit number under 100 so it is definitely a very small percentage of the total number of applications

Very possible. I submitted so much paper with mine I thought they would deny me for being anal-retentive, but the deputy said the more the better.
