Still waiting for email to proceed with training -
I still have two friends for first week of April and 2nd week of April and no call for interview yet. I told them just live their life and if they get a unknown call, pick it up and don't hesitate.
All we can do is wait and hope the CCW department will eventually catch up.

Had my interview today as well, and echoing what SavageShooter said.
Deputy was friendly but very rushed to get me in and out as he says they are very busy: he said he was assigned to the CCW unit 5 weeks ago, and as of today, they have 700 more applications to go through.
He said the CCW permit is very coveted, and even he doesn't always carry, because it's a very big responsibility. The vibe I got from him is that they are being very discerning with the interview and background.
He said after the interview, he writes a summary of it for the Sgt or Lt of the CCW unit to review. He said after he has interviewed everyone this week, he sends their packets next Monday, for review. He says there are 3 possible outcomes:
1. Sgt/Lt approves GC. Expect Livescan to take 6-8 weeks because DOJ is slammed right now. Like SavageShooter said, this deputy also reiterated they don't care what the Livescan online status is. It may take up to 4 weeks, before they receive the results from DOJ. If Livescan comes back clear, I will not hear from him again, but from another unit responsible for following up with training.
2. The only time I will hear back from him, is if Sgt/Lt is on the fence about my GC, and he will contact me to ask for more documentation.
3. Sgt/Lt does not approve GC, and I will receive a denial letter.
He said do not try to contact them unless I haven't received any word from them within 8 weeks.
-----
Now for specifics about my situation:
1. Because I am in the firearms industry, the deputy says my GC is pretty cut and dry. He wasn't even interested in my crimemapping.com printouts, LAPD crime stats or news stories of shootings in my neighborhood I printed out. "Crime is up everywhere" he said.
2. For question #6, re: restraining order, I thought it meant have I ever been the restrained person, and answered no. But he said, the question means if you are a party to any restraining order, and as a protected person in one, I should have answered "yes".
3. I have 2 traffic tickets and a suspension from some years back. Totally my fault and I accept it, and he said these might hurt my chances.
4. At the end, there was a 2 sided sheet of a lot of yes/no questions to things like "have you ever been fired/terminated from a job? Why?", "have you ever been in a fight as an adult?". I feel like even though there'd be no easy way to find out about these things, it was better to be completely honest. One question "Are you seeing a psychologist or psychiatrist?" I answered honestly, that I see a therapist, and he asked what kind and for what. And it's for nothing serious...just relationship/work advice, etc. but I feel like there's still a stigma about saying you're getting therapy.
So, basically, I was super optimistic going in, and how he felt my GC was a no-brainer, to leaving the interview in doubt, with many of the things regarding my background, that he delved into.
It is ultimately decided by the Sgt/Lt of the CCW unit, based on what the interviewing deputy writes in their summary of the interview.
The deputy let me update the list of 3 guns, with a new gun I just got (he asked me multiple times if the gun is already in my possession...ie. will show up in the firearms record search of the livescan) and encouraged me to get the livescan done right away. Whether my GC gets approved or not, I'm still happy I went through the process and good luck to all!
Went for my interview today. In and out in 15 minutes. Reviewed my application, brief history, and a short yes/no questionnaire.
Deputy confirmed only 7 deputies working the CCW unit. 4 conducting interviews, 3 on the backend with processing approvals/denials. Plus 1 lieutenant doing final reviews
Stated interviewee's files are transferred downtown the week after the interview is conducted.
Provided livescan form, but stated to hold off on training until they receive results. He could not comment on doing training beforehand.
Livescan done about an hour after my interview, and I will be doing my training this Saturday. on the fence about submitting the training doc as soon as complete or wait for the communication on the livescan.
Per my interviewing deputy, 6-8 weeks from this point until issuance or denial.
He did mention that LASD does not give a crap about what the livescan application status website says and they wait for communication direct from DOJ. All the email inquiries they receive slow down the process for EVERYONE because that takes a body away from processing the paperwork to respond to the emails.
For the livescan tracking, was it available for everyone same day as the scan? Just checked on mine and states "application transaction not found please contact issuing agency" hopefully it just needs some time to get into the system?Last edited by guymenton; 06-30-2021, 1:35 PM.L.A. Well, I sent the deputy the other documents he requested last Thursday and he confirmed receipt on Monday. No mention of me going to do Live Scan yet. I have the form in hand but I guess I'll wait until I'm told to do it

LOL. I guess we shall see. If I get denied then it's just $30 and 45 min of time wasted. No biggie. The fact he was so on top of me getting the additional docs to him makes me feel like he wants to push me through. He literally texted me from his cell phone the next day asking if I had the stuff ready to send him
. Or it's because he summarizes the info every week before he goes to swap apps on Mondays. Unfortunately, he didn't have time before this past Monday since he seemed to be off Thurs and Fri last week (sent him the stuff on Thurs). If I get rejected then I get rejected. I already figured I'd be rejected hah

I'm not sure if it's just one deputy who is being tougher on these apps (it seems like multiple posts are referring to the same person, as he says similar stuff to each), or if LASD panicked with how many people applied and Villanueva is having them partially reverse course on how liberally they were granting them. Hope it is the former and not the latter. This is a great overview of the process and what to expect. Very interesting and basically confirms that just because you get asked to get an interview or asked to do a live scan, does NOT mean you will get issued. Now I am curious if there are clear cut no-go applications that get submitted and they send a denial letter immediately and forgo all these steps. I don't believe we have had a single person announce a denial letter on the forum yet.sigpicComment
