You can use a Public Records Act (PRA) request for a copy of any stats they make re. CCWs. Note you cannot ask them to do something new for you, some stat that they don't create for their own use. Also, there's a fee and charge per page of whatever you request.

A CGNer PMed me to share this with everyone else.
It took them just over a month from submission to phone call to schedule interview.
The caller seemed to focus on whether the registered handgun to be carried is truly concealable.
MY TAKE:
I think, like many of us, this CGNer never thought they'd have a chance for a CA CCW and planned on getting a smaller, more concealable handgun if things changed. They weren't expecting a CV19 panic causing gun shortages, followed by a BLM riots/looting causing an even greater gun buying panic right before applying. I suggested sorting out concealed carry belt/holster rig now for current handgun at home -- standing before a mirror, sitting down/standing up from a chair, drawing while seated, walking, jogging, sprinting (such as you can inside your home or outside w/a Ring's BlueGun simulator), etc. Lesson: if you plan on applying now, try to get the handgun (and carry rig) you want to carry now.
Also, it is best to find out the type of ammo your IA carries for your caliber and use that. It heads off another issue with your IA and/or during a trial/lawsuit after a shooting.
Since this is a time of guns & ammo shortages, best to start this process (and make sure your gun is registered), now rather than later.Last edited by Paladin; 08-13-2020, 11:19 AM.Comment

Could you ask this person more details about the process including what the in-person interview was like and if they inspected the guns or not? Also, if he was approved and how long the permit is valid for? Even if this person doesn't reply on their own and use you as a proxy, we all really need more information from someone if they have gone through it. ThanksComment

Yes, basically, you qualify with the pistols/revolvers that you want to carry.
They are listed on your permit and you can only carry the ones that are on your permit.
Also, some IAs have limits on how many you can put on your permit. For example, San Diego Sheriff allows three previously. I heard they are allowing 5 recently.
