Seems to be hit or miss on VMs. I would start answering them if you're close to the finish line.

My dad, she left a VM AND a call back number.

Others have just gotten VM's that say we will try you again next time you come up in the pile (usually a few extra weeks from what I've seen)

In my case eight weeks from training docs received til call for pick up. I missed the first call but she left a message and called again the following day

Jesus!! Good thing she called the following day. How long ago did you get your call? Most I've seen recently were pretty close to the 4 weeks if not sooner

Crazy how our livescans cleared so close to each other but you got the training email so much later

I know I was so annoyed by that and the only thing that brought me comfort was I sent in my app 6 months after you.

For me, they called last week saying they needed a utility bill, and that my interviewing deputy didn't have me sing a form during my interview (look at my timeline to see how long that took to figure out)

Silence for me after that

I sincerely hope that my email and your call for additional documents did not send us back to square one on the 4-week pick-up date call. With me, it took them 4 weeks to send the email for additional documents, and now I'm on my 8 weeks from the date of Training-Receive/ 4 weeks into Additional-Document-Receive and still silent.

7/17/21 - brought application and $30 cash around noon to Walnut sheriff’s station (they checked the application and had me go back to correct the same day); good cause was work-related

2/22/22 - No Caller ID from sheriff to set up interview on 3/10/22 in Monterey Park station; received e-mail same day

3/10/22 - interview at Sherman Block station in Monterey Park; interviewing deputy focused on work-related cause; asked for employer letter stating job duties; told to not contact them; received e-mail asking for letter which I sent same day on 3/10/22

3/14/22 - did live scan at UPS store; CA and FBI cleared same day
5/27/22 - Firearms live scan cleared

7/15/22 - registered for 2-day CCW course for 8/20/22 and 8/21/22
8/15/22 - received proceed to training e-mail
8/20/22 - completed first day of CCW but couldn’t do second day; rescheduled second day of training to 9/17/22
9/17/22 - completed second day of firearms training; replied to LASD CCW unit with copy of certificate and shooting proficiency standards

9/27/22 - ignored blocked number call but suspected it was LASD; waited for voicemail but none left
10/15/22 - Yes, on a Sunday morning around 10am, picked up No Caller ID call from LASD; sheriff gave me option to pick up following Tues 10/18/22 but I scheduled for 10/25/22 @ 11am
10/25/22 - picked up at Monterey Park station 11am; process was less than 10 min after being called in

15-month process but might have been a little faster if I finished training sooner and/or picked up earlier phone call; all deputies very professional

My problem was my deputy never told me to get my live scan done after my interview (when GC was still needed), after the SC ruling and no email from her, I did it on my own. Would be farther along if I did it sooner

Ugh, I didn't even think about that!! I really hope that is not the case. Still can't believe how long that call is taking. What other docs did they need from you?

I just renewed mine. From phone interview to call for pick-up was one week. Keep in mind that I had already done the renewal qualification and turned it in to the CCW unit prior to the phone interview, so if you haven't done your renewal training before the phone interview, it'll probably take a little longer.

Also, I turned my application in 90 days before expiration, but they contacted me a few days before my permit expired. By the time I picked up my renewal, my permit had already been expired for a week and a half.

Seems like a relatively painless and quick process. Anything different or additional they ask compared to the initial application for the phone interview? Seems like its basically a "submit your renewal app and we will call you asap to come pick up".

Pretty much the same questions they asked during the initial interview, but now it's more focused on the last two years of having the permit.

My friend is going through the renewal process as well. His permit expires in December. He turned in his renewal app end of September. They already called him for his phone interview. A week after, they told him to go to firearms training.....so it sounds like they catching up with things.
