Difficult to ascertain what these numbers mean. Does this mean 4,318 denied while 1,640 (approved + awaiting approval) getting CCW's or does that mean there are a whole bunch of applications still not processed? I've done everything except go in, get my photo taken and walked away with my CCW permit. Am I in the approved bucket or awaiting approval bucket? Inquiring minds want to know! LOL I'll go with fiddle with my as-of-today obsolete Texas LTC (Constitutional Carry state as of 9/1/21) card and AZ CCW card while I wait.

The way I am reading it is, 5,958 total received, 1361 approved, they are actively working 279, and the rest are either received sitting in a pile waiting to be assigned, or have been denied.
Something else to think about, the 279 in the hopper this week, and let's say 208 in the hopper last week. There were around 20 approved, we don't know how many denied, so it's hard to guess how many are 30-60-90-120 days or more in the hopper. Let's say they processed 50, 20 approved, 30 denied, means the hopper went down to 158 and they added 119 new applications to the hopper in the past week. All we see is 20 were approved. If all they did was approve 20, that means each Deputy processed 5 in 1 week, meanwhile 300 new ones came in. They are falling farther and farther behind.

Return from DOJ is what's causing most of the holdup (I'm assuming being short-staffed is too)

He says he wants to get it to a 60 day process.

He answered my question about civilians volunteering, but as some said on here, it's a matter of security and privacy, so we can't be allowed to help.

Did I miss something important about CCW?

Next time, can someone ask them to clarify whether the 5958 pile includes denials, or simply received applications that are totally unprocessed? And if the latter, what are the denial numbers?

When I turned in mine, I was lucky and the officer reviewed my app. He said oh good you filled out section 7 and signed all the places you had to sign, he said so many are just tossed due to no phone number and no section 7. He said they have no way of getting hold of the applicant. He also gave me his card and a receipt that I payed for the ccw app.

I would imagine it doesn't include denials. Why would you keep track of denials?

They're just 6K applications sitting on some poor deputies desk somewhere in DTLA.

Mondays are my admin day at the range. Other days, I am either out of this crazy state to teach in free states or private lessons in the rest of the weeks.

I am just doing a public service free of charge for fellow members here.

Also renting a private range on Saturday or Sunday is too expensive for most of you guys. We can use BLM sites, but most of you don't want to drive too far. So Monday is the only choice at this time.

Yes. They are barely getting to May applications so it will be awhile longer. Have patience. They will get to you.

If you take the Sheriff's wording, he has said "Total Applications received", which should include all of them they have received. I would not expect line staff to know the numbers, but someone, somewhere, is keeping track of them, they need to justify the positions.
