Just completed my interview, process took about 15 minutes. Generic questions that are on a sheet, similar to others that have posted here.

Sheriff seemed to ask additional questions to help with my good cause. Stated they are swamped, but have developed new ways to stream line the process. Gave me the livescan sheet, suggested I wait till email to proceed with training but if I am confident in my live scan then go ahead. Stated my "good cause" was sufficient (recreational shooting, training courses to improve proficiency and attend matches in the future). "As long as your live scan comes back clean, I don't see a reason why your good cause wont be approved".

I'm sure you've had some dumb interns in the past, but man I don't love limiting rights. 20 states have constitutional carry without major problems, let alone this may issue process we have that only recently became somewhat doable in LA.

Again, the ones you would need to worry about who have any criminal intentions will carry anyway, they aren't bothering with a permit.

Now...someone smarter than me is going to have to tell you more about school zone/gun free zone and CCW, because I'm an idiot.
There may be a problem here. A CCW permit exempts you from the 1,000 foot rule, but not from the rule about possessing on school property, including parking lots, and whether the kids are there or not is irrelevant. If it is inherent in your GC that to address your risk, you would end up taking a gun onto school grounds, even in your vehicle, I suspect this will not be approved.
I wish today's liberals could understand: You cannot be generous by giving away other peoples' money and you cannot demonstrate your virtue by your willingness to give up other peoples' rights.

Thank you to all the guys who are smarter than me. And with bigger pps.

So I would focus your GC on the tools, raw material in your truck to and from work. To and from the hardware store. To and from will calling places like Grainger/MSC.

Driving around town with thousands of dollars of material in your vehicle.

              As a maintenance engineer.

              Das right.

That's news to me, thanks for the correction. What does Federal law (GFSZ) say on the subject if you know?

I am less familiar with the federal law, but my understanding is the 1990 federal gun free school zones act just prohibits knowingly possessing a loaded or unsecured firearm in a school zone.

But it was later pared back to only prosecuting those who somehow also touched interstate commerce. Federal government has very limited ability to enforce it.

Yep I did write on there that I'm aware that I can't carry in the schools, but that I mainly need it for when I'm doing side work or just any time I'm not at schools because I always have expensive tools on me. I wrote this GC a year ago but never sent it in because I knew I'd get denied. Didn't know that recreational shooting was good enough now or I would have included that too.

Thanks for the info about being able to have a gun on school grounds unloaded and in a locked container. I'll have to look into the actual law to make sure, but if that's the case, then my glock is gonna start riding with me to work!

^^ perhaps focus on the equipment you use for your side jobs rather than the schools.

You can also add the recreational activities as well.

Yep, I'd definitely read it for yourself to be sure, but I think it is pretty clear. Let me know if you see it differently.

That said, don't expect every cop to know the law. If the school were to ever discover you had a gun in your trunk they may freak out and call the cops, and it could be a nightmare to deal with. And remember, it has to be unloaded.
