CA/FBI is more or less instant/automated. The firearm portion is not, and is subject to throughput issues. Q2 of 2022 there was a huge backlog which is why mine took so long. By the time I cleared, it was back to being a few weeks, so it really just depends. Besides applicant ups and downs, it could also be related to DOJ manpower issues.

Just curious ... why does the firearms take so long to clear? if you own multiple firearms, does it take longer? Thanks in advance

Received my call from LAPD last week, it has been 4 months since I was placed on their CCW wait list and now have an appointment next month.

I inquired about current wait times and was informed that if you get on the LAPD CCW list now, it's currently a 1+ year wait for a phone call and that the LASD CCW list is currently running a 2+ year wait for a call if you join now!!

I moved finally and today submitted my change of address notice

Sent amendment application and updated utility bill at 730am today
1030am today, got an email saying the information has been updated and I will be contacted when they have availability to pick up updated permit

I got the call to pick up last Friday, 3/17.

NEW PROCESS:
I was called by a non LASD contractor, who gave me the phone # to the CCW scheduler and asked me to call THEM. They answered on the first ring and gave me a date. So it looks like they have outsourced part of their process. Upshot, as long as the contractor leaves the # on your VM, we no longer need to be concerned about missing the call and having to be put back in line.

Ahh great info, do you mind sharing the area code, or partial number of where the call came from? I'm bad at picking up my phone so I would love to be on the look out in case something similar happens with me.

It was very surreal, because she just said I am calling about ccw, please call this number for your pick up." and I was like, uh, who are you? Are you LASD? and she said no.

The 213 # she gave me rang and was answered "CCW scheduling."

However it said "unknown" vs "blocked caller id" or "no caller ID" (iPhone) so I hope it wasn't it.

Does anyone know if they are known to leave messages if we missed their call for pick up?

Thats not necessarily true with the new process. Previously, when the scheduler called YOU, they just hung up and moved on. Now that a contractor is calling and telling US to call the scheduler, I don't see why they wouldn't leave a VM with the number to call. We won't know for sure until it happens.
