Dumb question, would they care if we bring a OWB holster or ideally the holster we would want to CCW with

They ask that you bring at least 3 mags for each gun you want to qualify with. Legally owed high caps is fine, but you probably want to leave your drums and 33 rounders at home...

Youre in good hands, the Range Deputies are gun guys and generally very friendly. They care about making sure you learn what you need to learn and that youre safe at the range.

That being said, with a likely insane influx of applications, no one knows if the SD is going to continue doing the classes/quals they way they have in the past, or if they'll find some other solution.
      Thanks for all the information.

This also maybe a stupid question but is the point of the training to teach what you need to know to qualify or is the expectation that you have done training outside of this and are just verifying what you know?

Do you know if this something you can change after qualification?

It sounds like the course consists of two parts:
        1. Didactic training class
        2. Range qualifications

I think the didactic portion is to teach you the laws. That way, a CCWer knows when they can/cannot legally shoot another person. Also, if a CCWer ever wrongfully shoots another person, the CCWer can't claim ignorance. I don't think it's to teach you shooting fundamentals. The range qualifications is merely to assess your proficiency. You should be doing training with the firearm(s) you plan to conceal carry before then.

How many magazines do you need for each firearm during qualifying? I am guessing 3 mags?

Yes, the range part is just qualification. There's no training or instructions on how to shoot, draw from a concealed holster etc. Youre expected to show up fully proficient with your gun and gear.

Does anyone know the current answer to this? I think I remember reading long ago that OWB was required for the qualification, they didn't wnat anyone drawing from concealment. Anyone know?

Dunno where you read that, but it hasn't been required for at least a decade.

@MR 762 yeah, just got a notice stating where to get my Livescan done, with a warning that print returns will take 60-90 days.

Spoke with someone who had a buddy in a other county that got his permit a year ago. According to him, the 60-90day wait time is par for the course

I received the email yesterday and did the live scan today.

You can look up your live scan status here:

Mine has cleared "CA" and "FBI" already (took 2 hours). "Firearms" is still in progress. I have an active COE and FFL03. I do not know if this helps speed the process.
