As NorCalBusa said, not many people will have an answer to this because there aren't many people with CCW permits in this county to date.

It's probably best if you can obtain all the firearm(s) you would like to carry beforehand or sometime before your interview/range qualification. Right now, the policy for the addition of firearms on a CCW permit varies by county. Some counties (e.g. Los Angeles) only allow you to add new firearms during initial application process and at renewal. And even if the county allows for additions, you will have to go in again and qualify with the new firearm.

I applied and received an email saying to complete LiveScan but also received a separate email stating "We are in the process of reviewing/revising our policies and procedures to ensure we are in compliance. Please check our website in the coming weeks for changes."

Should I wait on the LiveScan?

I wouldn't wait. It's not that costly and if you are really "in process" within 6 months, I'd think they'll accept it. When you renew, you don't have to Livescan again.

I thought all CCW Live Scans have to be done in-house at the Sheriff's Office at: 400 County Center, 3rd Floor, Redwood City, CA 94063. If it's done in-house, they should have live scan forms available there. The reason I'm saying this is because the initial fee of $111 you paid to submit the CCW application is supposed to be for the live scan. According to the fee breakdown on the Permitium site, $93 goes to the DOJ for background checks and $18 goes to the Sheriff's Office for their Rolling Fee. $93+$18=$111.00. I would hate for you to pay and do a live scan somewhere else and have it be rejected, so you might want to confirm with the Sheriff's Office.

Yes, the email I got said all LiveScans for San Mateo County need to be done at the Sheriffs office in Redwood City. I also couldn't find the form so I'm assuming they have them when you go for your appointment.

I see. Yea, if they don't send you the form, there's no way to complete the Agency Information section of the form. I, too, would assume that they would have the form at the appointment with their agency information already completed for you. That way, there is no chance of having live scan results being lost and delayed due to typo's.

When did you apply? WHen did you get LiveScan request? Who did it come from?

I applied for CCW in SM County on June 23, about 1 PM. I got the email from the Sheriff's Dept I quoted above on June 24, just saying they are reviewing the situation. I have not had a LiveScan request. Checked spam folder and everything.

If you have already done a live scan and have an active COE do you need to do another one for the CCW or can you provide them with the information from the first?

You will need to complete a new live scan regardless because each live scan session can only have one designated receiving agency. The sharing of confidential fingerprints and background check information between agencies is illegal and not allowed.

Sure, they might have a machine- but they are in a lot of places. For my permit, I did them at a tax prep store who did them for nurses/job preemploment usually. Go figure.

No, I totally get that live scans are performed everywhere. In the past 3 years, I have completed 4 live scans myself for licenses and certifications related to my job. However, as it relates to CCW permits, each agency can dictate their own policies, and some will not accept live scans performed by outside vendors.

I'd imagine they let applicants know that...

I was told to ignore the Livescan mention.
