I’m in San Marcos, so prob easiest to go to NC Firearms for training, or if they sub it out. But does anyone have any other recommendations I should consider more? Iron sights have something?

Use John @ North County. He's retired EPD and very firearm knowledgeable. He's thorough, yet not boring at all. He will let you know what you should "remember" for the test, which is about as easy as the FSC test. He's quite helpful if you need help qualifying. I've used him twice; initial & renewal. Sign up ASAP as his classes fill up quickly.

    I'm also in San Marcos...

Just got my approval email today which makes it 75 days since interview (new SD record? lol) also I used NA as good cause and didn't have any utility bills, just pay stubs, bank statements, and fishing license. Wasn't contacted at all for any reason. Looking real good for SD residents this year

Received my approval text/email, as well. Interview was on July 18, approval on 10/8–83 days from time of interview. I’m just your average law abiding citizen—not law enforcement, not in security and don’t own a business. Grew up hunting and have owned guns my entire adult life. Not sure how/if that factors into it, but It’s looking good for SD residents.

The guys at DGM off Morena are highly regarded. I did my training and my modification training with them.

                    I second that!
I wish today's liberals could understand: You cannot be generous by giving away other peoples' money and you cannot demonstrate your virtue by your willingness to give up other peoples' rights.

The guys at Discount Gun Mart on Morena are good. I mean as long as you don't have high expectations for the class in general. Most of it you probably already know. But they can certainly answer any questions you have and they move you through it in an orderly and efficient manner. Plus there's a pretty decent taco shop right across the street for lunchtime Noms.

Just submitted and it looks like 10 months out for an interview. Is it worthwhile to periodically check in to reschedule to see if something sooner pops up or is that not the way things work as in canceled appointments don't come up for grabs?

                              Thanks

Yup, very worth it. Spots open up all the time. I cut months off my process time.
