SD Sheriff doesn't have a problem with it. I would suggest "within reason." For example dropping the trigger weight to 2 lbs on a carry gun is probably not a good idea.
You may also want to think about how a modification may look/play in the aftermath of a shooting if you end up going to court. There are people who feel that doing any mods to a carry gun is not a good idea. But people also seem to have difficulty finding actual court examples where a good shoot was turned into a bad shoot on the sole basis of a gun modification. I'm sure one or two probably exists...and I'd love see them. This is personal decision. YMMV."Kestryll I wanna lick your doughnut."

My personal rules are anything sight and grips related ok. No custom "Punisher" logo grips or anything that a jury will gasp at. Trigger crisper mods is one thing, polishing parts, etc. I would not mess with factory trigger pull much, if I did I would keep it in a generic "normal range" Factory only parts, sold on other models, example shorter reset like Beretta offers. I would not delete our wonderful CA "safety" features. Three of my now four listed CCW guns don't have them. My main carry was made in 1992. Can go off roster or revolver or whatever's left on the roster that doesn't have them. San Diego says laser sights ok but you can't use them to qualify.
Side note, I lean on the side of using ammo that LEO are likely to use if possible. Gold dot for instance. Again, avoid any gasp factor from jury that you used the Biden brand 9mm Lung Busters. Though those scary names might not be used much anymore on product labels. Shot placement and hollow points for most calibers matters in my opinion.
That's all me and my thinking, I agree, where are the court cases any of this came into play?
Have no data there I've seen yet.
Overly cautious above? Agreed. Yes. I am being so.

Question, because I am not sure. I purchased both guns I plan to have on my CCW in San Diego, I purchased them at previous addresses. I have now lived in my home for 8 years. Do I need to update anything with anyone before going in for my interview? The website says I have to have them registered to me. I have updated my personal information in CFARS but not my two pistols.US Navy Retired 1987-2007Comment

One of my guns is several addresses ago and 30 years ago purchase.
I had another that was not registered to me when I first applied. They had screwed up the SN when I bought it same time as the one above. I had to go on CFARS for that one. They said "it happens" and were good as long as I registered it again with correct SN.

Yeah, thanks! For a guy who had his application in the original Peruta pile, this feels like it's a long time coming.
And while the process, compared to my Arizona CCW, is still laughable - I 100% appreciate how much work, stress and effort the patriots in this state have put in, to make it possible for me to go through this process.

Yeah, I should probably share that one of the serial numbers on my application was incorrect - my fault - and the SDSO basically emailed to let me know, and told me they'd simply omit that particular gun, if they couldn't establish me as the owner in the system. I verified the correct number, sent them the full number in an "oops, very sorry, my fault" email (i accidentally omitted one digit in the code since on the older gun it's from - they're physically separated) and they were able to verify and keep it on the application.
Very reasonable, IMO, and very prompt/courteous emails from the licensing division.Comment
