That's very interesting. I wonder if that has ever actually happened. By Sate law the Sheriff is specifically immune from lawsuits from any party based on either issuing or not issuing.

I have applied 7-8 times over 27 yrs. I always appeal when denied and at least half the times it has been a favorable outcome. Gore is now a born again Republican and the more he grants more liberal LTC it seems the more comfortable he is with it. Remember though that all those who work under him could turn on a dime if his beliefs change. It's only politics. Gore has always been an excellant Sheriff. He learned much in his FBI career and has always handled his Deputies, the Board of Supervisors and the Press/Media in an exemplary way. Some people criticize his association with Ruby Ridge and San Diego residence of 9/11 conspiritors. Anyone in public service as long as him would run up against some criticism.

I recently read this whole thread and just had my appointment so here to share experience.

Originally applied early May 2021, with an Oct 2022 appointment date.
Used the SDCGO good cause worksheet to draft GC
Kinda just forgot about it, checked once for an earlier appointment, no luck, second time I checked in August I found Sept date wide open, yay!

Brought all my paperwork with me to appointment but needed none of it. I walked in about 10 min early and was quickly checked in and guided through the 3 stations. Went over application and applied some general "NONE", "SAME" answers here and there with initials. The person printed out my GC statement and added it to my application. Fingerprinting and picture taking was easy, everyone was friendly and asked if I had any questions.

They said it takes up to 90 days for background check, that after I get the approval from them, to sign up for the class, then upload that certificate in the system, and from there they would email the license.

So now I'm in the holding pattern. People have told me if I made it this far, I'm basically approved. I'm curious how deep the background check goes, do they look at social media? Would a picture of myself with Jordan Peterson be a disqualifier ?? (lol) I'm certainly not a prohibited person, I've never had even a hiccup buying a firearm.

Anyways, if you're waiting for an app, check permitium for a closer app date. I got the email that said SD was hiring a bunch of people to clear the backlog, and that they were moving people up, I just happened to check one day randomly and the date was wide open so of course I jumped on it. You don't have to give up the old date just to look. Cheers,

I think I would forgo the whole LTC thing if I could get a pic of Jorden Peterson and me. Or me and his daughter.

I doubt social media is looked at unless someone had reported to law enforcement about a threat made there. Just my thinking on that, I don't know for sure.

So I keep seeing people talk about taking in their paperwork or getting all their papers together. What kind of paperwork are people gathering?

So my personal business is part-time and could have me wandering around a parking lot or an office building at night (pen testing, vulnerability assessment), and I have a hobby of photography.

Now I am in the county, not the city so there is no business license requirement in San Diego County (think that was removed in like 1998).

Now my taxes show I actually make money in this new business. But what documentation would I actually need?

So today is day 44 out of 90. I have not received any communication from SDSO or BI at this point. I am not expecting approval until almost 90 days, but this wait is killing me. Like others have said, waiting 90 days is definitely the hardest part.

The wait sucks, use it to study on self defense laws, research which legal defense fund protection plan is best for you, pick some holsters,, practice dry fire draws, get comfortable with clothing you choose. You can even wear your conceal gear without the gun to just get used to it.

I would bring at least the schedule C from your taxes, contracts or invoices for your customers, printed promotional materials if available, you should be fine on the pen testing. On the photography a list of your equipment and its value and some kind of maps showing places you go and their danger or inaccessibility.

All very great suggestions. I would also add wearing gear and gun around the house to get used to the weight and how it all feels. That will help with finding and adjusting the right holster/carry position/adjustments. If you are unsure about holsters, consider the Alien Gear Shapeshifter package. It's like a Lego kit for holsters and allows you all sorts of options with one purchase, IWB, OWB, appendix all in one.

If you really want to go all out, consider adding a laser training cartridge. You can load and wear this around the house with all your CCW gear and when you are alone, you can practice draw and fire without the cost of ammo. All the light switches in my house have been killed so many time over. Colored Post-it notes make great laser targets as well.

looking at self-defense laws and CCW insurance.

I currently have a Kahr CW9 and XD9 Sub-Compact and will hopefully be purchasing a ruger lcr soon. I have had a 9mm training cartridge for about a year and love it! I have both a generic Kydex holster and an alien gear cloak tuck for my cw9 that I wear around the house daily. As for the XD9, I am probably going to pick up an additional cloak tuck shell and a vedder lighttuck with a claw. I understand it might not be for everyone, but I will also be picking up a very nontactical CCW fanny pack. I often find myself in situations that would prevent me from easily carrying(beach, hiking etc.) and the pack I found has a holster attachment available.

It sounds like you are all set. I have found a fanny pack to be the only practical option for carry to/from/at the gym as well as running outdoors.

Ideally you'd only bring documents that represent already public information.

Technically these applications are FOI-eligible 'public records.'

Thanks for the reccomendation! Looking at the enigma now and seems like it would work great with basketball shorts and for deep concealment situations.
