Are you certain about this? I took my training with Bill for my initial CCW and remembered having to bring and present letter of approval from the Sheriff. He needed the gun permit number from the letter to put on the training certificate .

Do note that you can do your AZ permit on your own once you get your CA permit. There's no need to have to pay your trainer an additional fee (if that's the case)...unless you just want to because it's easier for you.

I applied for my CCW about 14 months ago, my appointment with the Sheriff happened in early April this year, so now I’m in the 90 day background check waiting period and have roughly 20-30 days left.

Should I schedule my safety course now and try to complete it before I get confirmation that I passed the background check?

I am in the same boat you are. My appointment was April 16th of this year and it sounds like you and I applied around the same time. Just out of curiosity have you been in contact with any investigators from the sheriffs department or had anyone stop by for a residency check? I have not heard from anyone or had a residency check that I know of. As for scheduling the training I have heard so many different answers about doing the training now. I have checked into it and all the instructors seem to require an approval letter first before doing the training. Good luck with getting your approval letter.

Ya no I am unaware of any residency check. With SD County being so restrictive with issuing, I’m not sure why anyone would lie about their residency here lol.

Exactly I do t get that either. If you provide bills with you address on it, why would they need to do a residency check. I have talked to some folks that has a deputy stop by their place to very residency, but I hear it is only for new applicants, not renewals.

The practice has been a residency check for initial applicants, but not for renewal if your residence has not changed. I don't think that practice has changed recently.

Good deal. Thanks for sharing that information. It seems like it is hit or miss with the residency check.

I was an initial applicant and they never came to check my residence, weird. They did however call my employer. I got approved at the 85 day mark.

Thanks for the update. That's news to me. It makes sense that they would give that up because it is time consuming especially using the constrained resource of sworn L.E. personnel, and offers very little in the way of additional assurance beyond the other proofs of address.

Yes I agree. That would be very time consuming and there would still be no other assurances. I have not heard anything from anyone, so with that being said, I am going to look at the bright side. No news is good news. At least I hope.
