Hell I bought a cheap belt with plastic buckle just for this kind of thing to avoid having to remove.

Ditto : I second this and champion this statement also, mine would not have gone as faster than it did or as informed without everyones help here.

I don?t have experience with either as I always send people to Kyle at DGM. He can roll your prints for the AZ non-resident permit for no extra charge.
Are you thinking of David Premetz in Escondido? He does his class at a small private range called EFGA I believe? He?s GREAT. Very mellow and polite older gentleman. Very mellow and quiet private range with no distractions.
I had a great experience and give him 👍👍 2 thumbs up.

Also : he only charges $40 total for renewal, no extra fees for extra guns on renewal as well.
Can?t recommend him enough for my experience being a newer firearm owner. Very knowledgeable and patient and good style of instructing etc.

slixgunr@yahoo.com is his email. I can?t find his phone number right now. If it?s not appropriate to post his email please let me know and I will erase and delete. My apologies.

Easy peasy. They said the background will take the full 90 days. So hopefully 11/14 I hear something. Time to start shopping for more guns. I hope the P365 or the Ruger Max 9 suit me! I might even put a 5.7 on the list just because...

Directly from the Sheriff's website under the "Renewals" section...

              Renewals
Applicants can submit their renewal application 45 days prior to expiration.

You must take your 4-hour safety class PRIOR to submitting your application. All required documents must be submitted at the same time you complete your application to prevent any delays in processing.

Documents to submit include: 4-hour safety class certificate, ID/driver's license, and two monthly proofs of residency from different agencies.

Your application will not be assigned to License Staff until all documents are received.

I did my initial & renewal at North County Shooting Center in San Marcos. John is retired Escondido PD and runs a very good course. There was no extra charge for additional firearms; I qualified with 4. The shooting portion is pretty laid-back, and he gives you all the time you need.

DGM is the main recommendation here? What about TGS off of Balboa?

I'm hoping they get through my background check fast, because 90 days would suck.

Thank you all for the great information. I had never even tried to get a CCW because I thought it was too difficult/would be denied. Because of Bruen and the subsequent experiences from users on this forum, I was encouraged to apply for one. I applied on February 5th 2023 and was originally scheduled for appointment in January of 2024, but was able to reschedule for 8/21/23 (yesterday). Apppointment was so simple, great bunch of folks there. Now I just have to wait 90 days. Thanks again! 2A forever.

Always remember your history, Newcreation. Those "great bunch of folks" would have curb stomped you 15 years ago!

Marcusm, could you elaborate? Not sure why SD Sheriff Dept. (Especially the 3 admin ladies who helped me] would have been curb stomping me 15 years ago? Thanks.

Did mine the same day. Had an appointment at 0900, got there early at ~0830 and was done by ~0855. And yes, the ladies working were very nice. Also left with supple hands from the finger printing lotion!

Website says 45 days. Clerk at SD Sheriff told me it was possible to renew 90 days before expiration. Don't renew too early bc you will lose some days depending on how early you renew. My permit was set to expire on 9/28/23. Here's what I did:

                              4 hour renewal course: 7/16/23
Submitted application and uploaded documents: 8/15/23
Approval email and phone call: 8/16/23
                              Permit Received: 8/25/23

Permit now expires 8/24/25..... lost 35 days.

Since approval for renewals are quicker (than initial permits), renew within the 30 days before your permit expires.

I also lost 30 days on my last renewal.

You can take renewal course 90 days prior to permit expiration.
Submitting renew application has to be within 45 days.
