Yep, maybe in ten years they will approve the plastic card. LOL

Correct. From the SD Sheriff website:

When you are issued your CCW, you will receive a plastic card and a paper card (FD4501). The State of California Department of Justice has only approved the FD4501. The plastic card will fit nicely in your wallet but is not the official CCW. Only the FD4501 (paper card) is recognized and accepted as the official CCW.

Yes, the paper is the officially state recognized permit, not the card. It apparently requires state legislature blessing to switch to the card...so God only knows how long that will take. The county started issuing the card over a year ago, at least. So it doesn't seem like the legislature is in any kind of hurry.

So fold the paper up neatly and tuck it in your wallet somewhere. I gave up on trying to laminate it since it probably wouldn't fit in my wallet after that. The paper only has to last for two years anyway before you get to go through all this again and get a new paper. And I figured if my wallet goes swimming or something, I'll just call and ask them to reissue it.

            Congrats btw.

              Yes, I just renewed.

Submitted my renewal application/docs via Permitium on 4/7/22. On 4/14/22 got a phone call, a text, and an email saying my renewal was approved and they'd be mailing the permit. No need to go down and pick up in person anymore.

Incredibly more efficient than previous renewals.

                COOL!! Thanks!

Just to verify, you did the training before any approval for training? Like what was required for the initial issuance?

Renewal is different than initial. You don't wait for training verification. Just find an instructor from the list and do the 4-hour course/qualification within 90 days of your permit's expiration date.

You can submit your renewal application 45 days from your permit's expiration date.

                    Weird

Surrounding counties only issue a credit card sized plastic card. Is this a County-by-County requirement? Does San Diego's specific proposed card require individual approval by the state legislature?

Yes. The DOJ needs to approve the card. It hasn't.

Technically SDSO is issuing plastic cards but they're not valid CCWs.

Just wanted to report the time frame on adding a firearm to my CCW was extremely quick!

I submit my qualification form on Permitium and paid the fee on Wednesday, April 13th. Got an email on Thursday, April 14th that is was processed and queued to be mailed out. (SDSO Rep said 3-4 weeks)

Received it today, Monday, April 18! Super quick turnaround.

Hey everyone, wanted to know if this was good news for me or not.

One of the sheriffs from the SD sheriff’s department just came by to verify my home address. He gave me a business and said I should call my licensing specialist and the card said, mr….. please call me.

Call her and she said all this is for, is for for us to verify your home address. After the call we know that you live where you say you live and there’s nothing further that I need to do and that my CCW should be finalize next week.

Next week the 30 will make it 90 days since I had the interview on Jan 30.

What you guys think of my chances of approval. As I said in a few posts earlier, I have nothing on my record, not even a speeding ticket.

This is just the standard address verification process for new applicants. I don't think it reflects on your chance for approval one way or the other. The step that reveals that is if/when you get the notification to proceed to training, that should me they have approved your GC.
I wish today's liberals could understand: You cannot be generous by giving away other peoples' money and you cannot demonstrate your virtue by your willingness to give up other peoples' rights.

The more time I spend on this forum, the more sense kcbrown makes.

Awesome!! Well 7 more business days to go! I’m
Extremely excited and nervous for the notifications on if it get approve or not.

Man discount gun mart was pack on Sunday! It was full all day with reservations, couldn’t even go use the range, had to leave for poway.

That poway membership is extremely expensive for the initial fee. Discount gun mart is looking very enticing now.
