Slow Speed

Calguns performance has been excellent for most of today, even during times of elevated traffic, but has slowed down in the evening. The inconsistent site behavior with seemingly no pattern confuses me.

Has been really slow, but new issue I've noticed is that if I try to click on a photo attachment someone put in their post, added as a jpg link but not hosted elsewhere, it takes me to a log-in screen again.

I log-in, does it again, and again. Even when I'm logged in and go back to that post to click on the jpg url/hyperlink - does it again.

Never did get to see the photo. Gave up. I had to check the calendar to be sure it wasn't April 1st.

The inconsistency largely depends on the host. A popular (cheap) option is to rent a small fraction of a server computer's storage, ram, bandwidth and clock cycles. This somewhat links your site's performance to whomever else is hosted off the same computer. I use this kind of host and I've been lucky to not see dips.

I'm not sure what hosting arrangement calguns has, but it the inconsistent latency could have something to do with shared resources.

Just speculating, because I know no more than has been posted, but it seems to me it's acting like some process needs to be restarted after accumulating enough connections or whatever.

That's not the issue. The MYSQL DB server doesn't have enough processor horsepower and probably not enough memory. I've seen this before with other forum software and especially vBulletin, which I also used to manage.

Suppose , just suppose, all the problems with the Slow servers ect ...
Is somehow being done by some anti - 2nd amendment democratic group ..... Hell bent on messing with the forum SO much , membership drops off ..... ect ......

Performance seems good this morning. Perhaps most Calguns users are sleeping in and thereby lightening the server load.

Working just fine for me yesterday afternoon and this morning.

The site ran quite smoothly today until around 5:30 PM, and then loading speeds went off the charts again.
