How to get more women, esp young single ones, to get CCWs?

Frankly, I'm getting pretty sick of this.

First, we got Annie Le, age 24:

Next, there's Phuong Le, age 24 and Michelle Le, age 26:
The family of a Bay Area nursing student who disappeared during a break in class is offering $20,000 for information that leads to her safe return.

Now, just this afternoon I found out about Michelle Malkin's cousin, Marizela Perez, age 18:

ETA UPDATE: Annie and Phuong were found murdered. Michelle Le is now believed to have been murdered and a search has begun for her body in the SF East Bay hills. Marizela is still missing.

To a large extent, this is just venting -- I know a large number of women, esp young ones, choose to be naive & idealistic or foolish because they don't want to think about their daily vulnerability or how evil some men can be. But for the ones who may have a more level-head on their shoulders, what can CGN/CGF do to make more women want to get a CCW and then actually get one and EDC (everyday carry)?

We want to be prepared so that when CA goes Shall Issue, CGN/CGF (and others) will be able to hit the ground running as far as outreach to women, esp the ones who don't visit forums like this, or never even owned a gun before.

    Thoughts?

(In case you don't keep up w/CGN/CGF's 2nd A RKBA efforts, we expect to win Shall Issue in the federal courts within 2 years, maybe even in 1 year.)

It will take people introducing them to guns to start, I also think having a high volume of women gun owner is general is a large part of the equation. It pisses me off to read about this crap also, I would like to see this end one day but, I know it never will.

Speaking for my gf who is 23. If LA became shall issue she would get one. I work at a range and have tons of people (young women too) asking about getting a ccw in LA, and we tell them its damn near impossible.

If you make the process pain free and shall issue for people with clean backrounds, you will not have a problem with young women applying for a ccw.

        Well there goes my weekend.
It is hard to hear this stuff are going on everyday to good people
It is hard to get girls to carry a gun, specially the sweet one. To do that is to admit that the world have a lot of sick people out to hurt them. Although that is true, but sad.
I am try to get some of my female friends to learn how to handle a gun. I want them to be comfortable around firearms and not to freak out when they see one, but it is hard.
        I am still trying.
But, if a girl need to carry a gun to protect herself, I said go ahead.

Anyone else make it half way through the title thinking this was a Neil thread?

Seriously though... The sad truth is Most women have a 'it won't happen to me' mentality that doesn't change until they experience some sort of personal attack.... Sometimes it's too late.

Don't tell them ONLY that! Also tell them to join us on CGN and to learn how we're fighting for that right in this state in the federal courts (3 federal lawsuits at this point, another may be filed before 20 June) and we expect to win in 1 to 2 years.

The first part is being worked on RIGHT NOW by Brandon ("wildhawker") and Gray Peterson ("Gray Peterson"). See: www.gotcarry.org and http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/f...play.php?f=116

The 2nd part we hope to win via federal lawsuits in 1 to 2 years.

Seems like most replies are along the lines of current gunnies inviting newbies to join them. While that is all great (and probably THE most effective way), I was thinking along the lines of what content to put in fliers or possible print or radio advertisements that would make women, esp young single ones, want to take the next step and look into CCWs. Something mass distributed that wouldn't beat them over the head, or scare them into panic attacks, and yet motivate them to not just toy w/the idea, but actually look into it (via www.gotcarry.org).

BTW I initiated this thread on my own and it is not something CGN/CGF is doing (that I know of). It's just that, as I expressed in the OP, reading about all these cases in just the past 6 days has gotten me p!$$ed off.

IOW, CGN ladies, please give us your "insider's knowledge" of what would work w/non-gunny females.

BTW I won't be surprised if there is no "silver bullet" answer. But I figured there's no harm in asking.

Because we're all posting on this site, I think we have a fair understanding of what the real world is like and it's often times a very harsh reality filled with bad people.

I've been competing for a long time and have only met a handful of women who understand what it is to take control of things by learning about the safe handling of firearms. The way I try to help is to be visibile -- whether it's at the CGN booth or on the firing line. That was the reason I reactivated my pistol instructor's certification -- to try to help women who want information.

I agree that there is a great need for CCW education for everyone, especially women. All I can say is that each person on here needs to spread the word and lead by example.

my gf has her appt with sac sheriff for ccw in *only* 6 months...talk about a waiting period. I just had my appt last week. I completely agree with having more armed young women. I take it upon myself to invite as many friends of hers as possible to the shooting range.
just happy to be here. I like talking about better ways to protect ourselves.

The real key IMHO is getting suburban soccer moms on board. As a group they're the most likely to be anti, but once converted wlll be the fiercest advocates pro.

As you aptly pointed it, it's a bit of a moot point right now as my county, for one, is stingy and won't issue CCWs unless there is "good cause."

But, if CA does become a shall issue state, how do we get the young women on board? I'm not sure that print flyers and radio ads will convince them to get a CCW. So what to do?

                          1) Get women to personally introduce other women to firearms. Every once in a while, I casually mention to my friends that I shoot and invite them to come with if they ever want to learn. Just the other day, one commented that she's thinking she'd like to take me up on the offer. I might just invite a whole group of women one afternoon.

                          2) Try to start shooting clubs at college campuses. For example, UCSD has a shooting team. This way, a girl might think of it more as another "intramural sports team" and be introduced to positive aspects of firearms and CCW rights. We had a lot of women on my university archery team.

                          3) Possibly partner CCW education with self-defense classes. Women will sign up for a R.A.D. (Rape Agression Defense) class because they know it is important and useful. Then, make firearms and CCW a part of the lecture/lesson.

My children enjoy shooting, and they discuss it with their friends. We live in a very anti-gun area, but that doesn't stop me from talking about one of our favorite sports. Teach your children, and take new shooters out to the range with you. Last week I had a nice surprise from one of my kids friends. She would like to go shooting with me. She grew up in a hunting family in Texas and hasn't been shooting since she was a kid. I have also had conversations with other parents (these were men though) at the range. They were surprised to learn that I take my kids out shooting. I encouraged them to take their daughters out to teach them safety and not to fear guns. Teach your children and educate your friends.

It's kinda hard to encourage folks in my area to get a carry permit when our county is may (not) issue. Paladin, while I understand your passion, I think the cart is in front of the horse at least in my case.
