Lady Calgunners!!! I need your input!

I've been shooting with my husband for a couple of years now, and he finally talked me into helping coach at the Women on Target event today. Gotta say, it was a really well run clinic, and I had a blast. Of the three women I helped with pistol, two had never held a gun, and one hadn't shot in 30 years. We started with a 22, but each of them moved up to my M&P 9mm in no time and loved it.

I was impressed with how well it was run. The men were very respectful and encouraging with the new shooters. Funny what was said about putting a hand on the back being creepy - we were specifically told to ask first before touching anyone. There were two of us women coaches, and the shooters were asked if any would prefer a female.

I guess my point here is that this was a good example to follow on getting new women shooters interested and comfortable. There was a focus on safety, on having fun, with none of their significant others, sons, dads, etc there to "coach" them.

On another note, maybe a good place to market would be at self-defense seminars. One woman was there because her ex husband is starting to harass her and she wanted to buy a gun for protection.

......I am supposed to come up with creative, effective ways to reach out to the female community in CA to drum up interest in both firearms/RKBA and Calguns.

You might contact your local range and see if they have a ladies program. We teach one every month and market it as a ladies only experience. Its a free class run by NRA certified volunteers. We provide eyes, ears, and ammo free of charge. We've run it for several years and its been a big hit for us.

BTW - If you feel like driving up from Fresno to check it out in Manteca, our next class is.......

Another idea.
I've been meaning to pitch this idea to my own club's Board of Directors. My wife has said she might just run it with me. Its a program for couple's. A Couple's night if you will. Something along the lines of a steak dinner for 2 for $40 and it include range time & 2 boxes of ammo. Just need the regular staff and someone (perhaps me) to work the BBQ. Not a money maker for the club persay, but may give an opportunity for a couple to do something different.

You might ask your local range if they are interested in doing something along the same lines as an 'outreach' program. Maybe you (or someone you know) run the BBQ. As we move into the summer, it will get dark late enough to make this feasible.

That is the NRA way, in all NRA curriculum courses any instructor should be asking before touching any student, explaining why they want to do so, regardless of sex.
