to the OP: what did you decide to do....or not do?

Sorry about the long delay, I'm fine, just got really busy last week.

So anyways, I just made it simple, open carry. He didn't seem to notice, and I didn't talk about it much afterwards.

Reading what he writes online, he seems very against guns but we still talk about other things. I think I'll just take KevinB's advice.

"Private property" is usually YOUR property or that of a relative or an employer who has given permission. Most gun ranges are 'private property', for instance, but won't let you open carry in the lobby unless you are staff. Some ranges will let you shoot from the holster on the range, after being certified by an RSO, but even then, you don't walk out of the shooting lanes with a holstered gun.

So read your law on where you can open carry. For instance, you can be in your own front yard but if the property isn't fully fenced, if the mailman or a Girl Scout can walk up to your front door, you can't open carry in the yard. There are posts available on this and Librarian is our go-to guy on where to find english-language explanations.

If a woman I was dating said this, I would be out the door. I have a CCW, and do not have problems with a woman also carrying. However, if her primary reason to carry is that she feels men in general would attempt to rape her then that is an attitude I do not need in my life.

If she gave her reason as "self defense" then I'd be good.

Everyone varies, some women are over the top and paranoid others are way too trusting. I once had a woman get a ride home from me and a friend at a bar she had only known us for an hour. Ive had a woman jump in my truck with not even knowing me because she was in an argument with ex, one jumped on my motorcycle with me having just met me.

One wouldn't go with me in my car on our first date even though we had known each other for a while, we met at the location. Another was same way I was just friends with her and I was suppose to take her to a gun shop of all places to buy an obscure gun I found for her and she insisted on taking her own car and meeting me and not carpooling.

I always thought that as kind of weird like she thought I was going to rape her or something. We didn't remain friends for various reasons, one was ammo related of all things!

I think the general dating rule applies......just be yourself...be who you are and let the other person take it or leave it.

But I also don't think it's something you need to blurt out on the first date. Just let it come up naturally when the time seems right.

Don't make a big deal of it. Live your life. Treat it like any other date. Go out, have a great time. Feel each other out with topics of conversation...such as 2A. Then go forward as you see fit.

Everything will work itself out. Don't make it weird. Just be natural. Respect the other person and her beliefs.

Short on time omw to work so didnt read every post, but why not take them to the shooting range for the first date? Get Lunch first to have a conversation to know hes not a total tool and then hit the range? Dates dont have to be a boring dinner/movie combo. A day at the range is a stress relief and a more bonding experience than sitting in a crowded theater not talking.
