BTW, triple B also charges $45.00 if you don't buy the gun there, and they do it with major 'tude too. Take it or leave it is how I had it put to me once.

After reviewing the paperwork from the transfer, I noticed that they put the demo on one of the slips as part of the HSC and didn't include the fee. Then on the store register reciept they did. Sounds kinda sketchy to me.

      See for yourself..

That's because they're trying desperately to make it seem legal...which it's not...doesn't matter where they put the charge.

They ARE charging an additional fee, which is not allowed. Same as charging for storage.

Didn't forget it. It's a good charge that had to be done before the PPT could be completed. It is not part of the PPT fee nor is it an additional charge related to the PPT. The "safe handling demo fee" is the bogus fee.

Wow ... I literally live right around the corner from them and had been looking at picking up a handgun from them. I can't say I was terribly impressed with the store but if they are given to that kind of BS fee charging, I guess I'll be looking elsewhere.

I guess you can say the boycott has begun.

If you want to do something about it, don't boycott the place, go in and ask what the charges are and then if it is illegal, report it to the CA DOJ.

I had a similar experience at OC indoor shooting range. They charged $30 for Registration $25 for Safety Demo and $15 for labor. I had to argue with the manager for about the fees for one hand gun and one long gun. I already had my Hand Gun Safety Certificate but they were insistent on the safety demo fees till I said I would go some were else and contact the DOJ on the legality of these fees. They asked me to leave after a couple other people agreed with me and decided to take their business some were else as well. LOL so I no longer give them any business I will not shoot, purchase or transfer a firearm their ever again.

Yup, i've been whining about Sportsmen's Supply for about 2 years now... They have always tried to charge the $25 Safe Handling demo fee.... They tell you that rather than pay, you can bring in your own NRA certified instructor to perform the Safety demo with you.... Its total BS. They don't tell you about the charge until after dros has been submitted, and if you tell them to forget about the transfer, then they tell you it will cost $25 to redros it to the seller..... The last time I was in there I got into a *****ing match with the manager about it.... Simply put, i will never spend another dime there.

Wow! I just put their info in my phone with 'blacklist' next to the name. When I'm killing time between projects I frequent gun stores and will make sure to avoid this place. Even if it was a $1 fee, it's shady and is a red flag making me wonder what kind of poor customer service I'd be in for. I'm surprised they didn't charge you a 'lighting fee' and 'cleaning the carpets' fee. I buy a lot of ammo and reloading supplies and I just bought my third gun this year. I actually go out of my way to deal with good shops. Riflegear is 60 miles from my house and I just ordered my second lower from them and will be ordering at least 2 more this year.
With all this "gun control" talk, I've not heard one politician say how they plan on taking guns from criminals, just law abiding Citizens.

Wish I was up in that part of CA, I'd walk in and do your demo for you just to see the expression on their face.

Oh, and by the way...NRA has nothing to do with the safe handling demo...you have to have a CA issued instructors card (looks just like an HSC card) to legally sign off on the demo.

                              i have a related question

i did a few ppts recently and was told by the clerk that i have to buy a 10 dollar lock

i didnt have a lock for the first purchase so fine i bought one,

but the second purchase (ppt) actually came w/a brand new lock in the package

the clerk asked me "do you have a receipt for that lock that says you bought it within the last 10 days"

i say no..it comes with the new gun..he tells me that i have to purchase a new one

do i have a right for my money back, is there any truth to this?

i mean the lock was unopened still in the plastic packaging and brought from the seller

I thought the receipt had to be dated within 30 days? And you do have a receipt, the one for the gun that came with a new lock.
