Question… recently introduced to a new gun shop while doing a PPT.
The transfer took approximately 20 minutes.
When I returned 10 days later to pick up the firearm I also bought a Hornady lock box, Hoppes #9 and some CLP.
Used the same shop for a second PPT. 20 minutes or so again. 10 days later I bought another lock box.
Two weeks later I returned to this store (introduced to me through the first PPT) and I bought a Glock 26 and 1,000 rounds of 9mm.
I will return to this store for future needs and refer others because of the exceptional service I received on my first visit.
Lock box and cleaning supplies I could have and normally would have bought online. Same for the ammo.
Did this store lose money on me?Comment

The $37 is only $27 since you get to keep $10 of the DROS. Now, for that $27, you get 3 people to walk in (The seller once and the buyer twice) and one WILL RETURN even if he/she is 50 miles or more away. So, in reality, you are paying $9 per walk in. Is that more or less than the other forms of advertising you do?NRA Certified Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun and Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor

Do you really think I didn?t already figure the $10 into the equation when my book keeper was involved? The $37 is only $27 since you get to keep $10 of the DROS. I don?t care if 100 people walk into the store, if they don?t spend enough money to pay the bills, what?s the point? What other retailer in the history of retail stores would agree with you
Seriously, how does any government mandate that fixes prices for a retailer even make sense?
This is all about butt hurt gun owners pissed off because they want to demand exceptional service from a retailer who?s gonna lose money. If I?m wrong, then why do people complain continuously about treatment from FFLs when doing PPTs?
Why are you trying to convince people in an industry that they?re wrong and that PPTs are so great and enhancing for their business when the books show the opposite?
If PPTs were so great, I?d be on my ads howling at the moon about our PPT service! ? come into our store today! We?re doing a weekend sale on PPT?s! 20% off?

Ya NO.
Not unless they have no other options closer.
An if they have no other options then they don't.
Do you work in a retail location with a state of the art POS system?
One that lets you run reports by ZIP CODE, dollar spent, number of transactions and so on?sigpicComment

So the shop lost $$ on your ppt.
An about broke even with you pickup transaction.
So no net gain at this point. the shop is still in the RED
Again the shop lost $$ on this ppt and when you returned an got the lock box they about broke even.
So no net gain at this point, shop is still in the RED
On this trip. Trip number 6 the shop grossed about $120 on the ammo and about $150 on the Glock. So lets say $270 gross.
So at this point $270 - $50 for paperwork = $220.
Shop is in the RED from the first 4 trips late call it $100.
So you were in the shop 6 times and the shop netted about $120 or $20 each time you were in the shop.
If you add in over head the shop is still in the red.
So no the shop did not benefit from servicing you at this point
So haw far is this shop from you house or work whatever ever is closer?
How far from you is the shop you used to go to?
How many other shops are within the same distance?sigpicComment

LOL. If the buyer doesn't return for a second visit, how will he/she pick up the firearm they got via PPT?NRA Certified Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun and Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor

Sorry I believe were talking about repeat visits beyond the ppt that would generate profitable sales.
If they never return and make profitable sales. Then there is validity to you statements about advertising cost upside.Last edited by ASD1; 03-28-2023, 12:45 PM.sigpicComment

I stated that every PPT involves 3 people crossing the threshold. I'm talking about advertising costs per person who walks in the door not per person that spends $X at a shop. I do wonder what the average advertising cost per person who spends enough to compensate for the cost of advertising but, that's another question and apparently the question you're trying to ask/answer.NRA Certified Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun and Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor

Why do you just come out and say, there should be no difference in fees, between using your FFL to assist buying a firearm from somewhere or for transfering a firearm (PPT) to somebody else living in Kalifornia
(buyer pays all fees)
Maybe for us consumers, that will trigger FFL fee regulations, for any and all transactions, requiring a FFL.
Currently
$10 fee cap for PPTs
Unregulated fee for using a FFL, for services, other than for PPTs.*

Overhead existed regardless of my patronizing the store no? I am new customer introduced through the first PPT.So the shop lost $$ on your ppt.

Shop is about 7 miles from me. Same distance as the next closest gun shop. One is just a left off the freeway and the other is a right.
Let?s say the shop is even at this point. Any future visits (assuming they are not for PPT) would all be net positive yeah? This is not factoring any referrals. I?m kind of a big deal you know? <??kidding (kind of).Comment

Doesn?t matter. For every purchase you make, a percent of that is taken away with a ppt. No matter how you frame it, servicing a ppt is a loss. It?s not overhead. My employees can always do something in the store to enhance sales instead of servicing a total loss.Overhead existed regardless of my patronizing the store no? Don?t we have enough regulations and fee and tax mandates in our state? Why do you just come out and say, there should be no difference in fees, between using your FFL to assist buying a firearm from somewhere or for transfering a firearm (PPT) to somebody else living in Kalifornia

Full circle, ffls supported or were neutral, about the idea at conception.
I was at many of "The Great Western" gun shows in Pomona in the 1980's and the freedom to buy and sell guns, without paperwork, made collecting arms fun.
Unfortunately, I could only just afford getting into the show and could only enjoy seeing historic arms and not buying historic arms.
PPTs were and are BS scheme, to create bureaucracy and were a quick buck for (back then) FFls.
What was the cost of a FFL transfer in the late 1980's,,,,, $35 bucks ?????
Our inconvenience back then and today, is now your inconvenience today and tomorrow.
Welcome to the boat.*
