I am not missing anything. PC 16400 says what is acceptable. The DOJ has CHOSEN to ignore that and issue regulation that is contrary to what the law says.

It does not matter if 16400 was written prior to the RealID act. If they didn't want to accept non-RealID licenses as part of that Act, then they should have updated 16400,but they did not. RealID Act, as far as I know, does not change the definition of "valid California drivers license", which is what 16400 requires as acceptable ID.

So again, it is the DOJ regulation, not the PC, that is prohibiting non-RealID being used.

Your fed limits apply license won't be anygood getting on a plane, military base or government facility requiring a real ID either though. Which is a huge deal for construction workers who are working on federal facilities. So its not what you think. The real ID is available for those that want them.

So would a CA Disneyland driver's license be acceptable? I believe it is issued by the Disneyland Department of Motor Vehicles.

One thing that gets me is that to get a Real ID you have to provide proof of residency, yet there is no change in regards to being able to accept a Real ID for proof of residency for a handgun.

That is fine by me. I have a passport. And no kidding they are available to those that want them. It's why we are having this conversation. But many don't want to have to deal with the headache of getting one if they don't need for anything federal.

That probably because when someone does change residency within the state they only give you the pink update card to fill out.

Nothing has really changed accept for the fact that they want to give illegal aliens licenses and then want everyone else to prove they are citizens/or here legally.

In this day and age its hard to avoid everything Federal. Can't get in a courthouse, a federal office, ... buy a gun.

To each their own but getting a Real ID wasn't a big deal. Make an appointment, in and out in 15 minutes.

Not saying I like any of it but its just one more on a long list of things I don't like about CA.

You have two options, get one from DMV or hire a lawyer and fight the government over the headache. No one likes the scenario but which route do you want to take?

Btw, I was told that other states might not accept an ab60 license or even a federal limits apply license for driving in that state.

For me, the biggest b**ch of all this, is when I got my original license (decades ago...I won't say how many) I had to show my birth certificate which they still have on file (paper not electronic, of course). Now, if I understand it correctly, I'll have to go down to DMV and do it all over again so it will now be in an online database, subject to being hacked. WAPITA.

I don't recall, there have been many discussions about it. It might have been from the CA DOJ as well.

DOJ has bulletins that CA FFL's must acknowledge they read.
Including the one that said do not accept AB-60 licenses.

FFL's not following those bulletins are putting their shop at risk.

Same bulletin system that make dealers stop running 1 in 30 exemptions for modern handguns to those who have a C&R and COE.

We know they are over stepping but staying in business is the priority.

I asked DROS system "Report an Issue" a couple of weeks ago when this thread started if there had been any update or if the powers that be were working on a more defined directive as to the "Real ID" issue. The response was, "Follow the AB 60 bulletin until further notice." The implication is...there working on it...maybe...

So I went in today to try and get an updated Real ID - ID -- they had to replace my DL since both had only 1 of my middle names and not both of my middle names... and I was told the DL takes "precedence" over the ID... oh well...got my hole punched DL now and waiting for my Real ID - DL....

The only good news is that I was in-n-out pretty quick.. I arrived early for my 8:50a appt.. was out by 9:15am

Not only that...I got a separate notice that tells me my CA ID is now INVALID because they updated my name.

So I got jack crap and have to go back to the DMV and HOPE they can process my stuff correctly..
