Disappointed in LGS for Refusing PPT

It's hard for me to believe a retail store would have a safe that's full and can't accept firearms.. I can almost guarantee that if they received a shipment of Ruger Precision Rifles that they had backordered for 6 months that they would accept them all and not send them back to the distributor.

I don't run a retail store though...so maybe it's common practice to lock up inventory more (or less) safely than customer PPT firearms.

If I did run a store they would all go in the same place.

They also stopped taking in FFL transfers a while back so not sure what the real reasons are for these business practices but its going to cost them money in the end .

It has become a common excuse with some FFL's to avoid PPT. One little known thing also is DOJ has the opinion that if a FFL is selling guns at a gun show they must also process PPT's at the show as well.

There is a FFL I have done business with since 2005 and spent many thousands of dollars with they pouted because in all that time I did exactly 1 PPT through them!

At least you were told a reason that they don't have room for long guns. I drove out from San Francisco to meet a buyer there and City Arms East said they no longer do PPT for long guns, so I then had to drive out to Martinez with the seller. Obviously, I was told b.s. by them.

It floors me that some FFL's either out and out refuse to do PPT or invent excuses to avoid them. Granted, the $10 buck fee is minimal at best but at lease you have gotten two potential buyers into the store/shop. Seldom do I get a PPT couple into the store that I can't sell one or both some stocked item(s) which immediately enhances the $10 PPT fee. I look at PPT as the government "requiring" potential buyers to enter my shop and if I can't make a buck to two off one or both then shame on me. Guess some folks just aren't in the business to make $$.

Yep, there is something seriously wrong with that. Then look at trying to push UBC across the Country and see how it will be implemented.

I took off early from work in San Francisco, took BART to the east bay, then rode my scooter 30 minutes up to City Arms East. After being rejected, the seller and I both drove to the Big 5 a block away, because that's where CAE sent us. Big 5 said they would do PPT, but couldn't that night because the manager was leaving in 1 hour BUT HE HAD TO TAKE HIS LUNCH BREAK FIRST!

I called Walnut Creek Big 5 and they said they could do it, but not if it was an AR because that could only be done before 3:30.

I was on my Vespa so I wasn't about to hop on the freeway and drive up to Marteniz. So we set an appointment at Big 5 for next week.

Agreed. It's ridiculous to turn away customers, but worse if the FFL lies to the customers. I can truly understand if their safes are full, but to blatantly tell me that they no longer do PPTs for long guns, cause me trouble to call 5 different FFLs, and finally travel further away from home to do a PPT is not acceptable, so I stopped giving them City Arms East my business.

This is common at City Arms in Pleasant Hill. They are not refusing just to do a PPT, because I have been there doing a handgun PPT and hearing them tell someone that their long gun safe is full. I think the main problem is people don't pick up their gun after 10 days, they wait 29-30 days.

Just drive down the street 1/4 to 1/2 mile to Big-5. They are between Pep Boys and Taco Bell. They are kinda across the street from Harbor Freight and O'Reilly's

Some friends of mine work at a gun shop. Customer walks in to conduct a private party transfer (ppt) and the owner refuses stating the safe was full. Customer calls DOJ and DOJ calls the gun shop. PPT done without a problem. My friends (who didn't mind doing the ppt) got some laughs out of that one. Sometimes one has to advise the authorities.
