Disappointed in LGS for Refusing PPT

I've seen many threads like this here in CalGuns before, but I can't remember if an FFL is required to do PPT's or not. Anyways, I was very frustrated today when my LGS refused to do a PPT because "they don't have room in the safe for long guns."

As if it isn't hard enough to deal with all the California legal/political BS already, now I have to deal with this?

I have purchased many guns from this store, and even done one or two handgun PPT's in the past, but they have lost my business forever.

    <end rant>

What if they actually had no room in the gun safe?
Or maybe you came in 30 minutes before closing time and wanted to do a ppt?
Was this at City Arms East?

        Yes, it was CAE.

If this was a one-time thing then that sucks, but the way the guy explained it was not "we ran out of room in our safe for today and can't do PPT's for long guns right now." It was more like "we never do long gun PPT's because we don't want to take up the room in our safe."

I came in 2 hours before they close. I took off work early. Both the seller and I contacted them to confirm if they do PPT's, even though I had done pistol PPT's there in the past. I didn't think to clarify "long gun PPT" (my fault, I guess).

I believe it is part of them having an FFL in CA.

Ca requires you to go through an FFL and have them hold the gun for 10 days. I don't see how they can get away with turning down a PPT.

Report them to the DOJ, they are violating the law. It is as simple as that.

Tell the DOJ that in the future you might be less likely to try and abide the law by conducting transfers at FFLs, if these FFLs will not follow the law and facilitate legal transfers - that will get their attention.

If it were me I would also take them to small claims court for time and trouble you put into this excercise coordinating the deal, and then they refused to live up to their obligation as a licensed CA dealer. Because I am sick of these jackwads.

Not to defend them, but if you're going to take them to court make sure you followed your end of process (legally speaking) and provide the PPT request in writing:

I have no intention of taking them to court, but I'm definitely curious if this is a single incident or if others have had this issue with City Arms East (or their other store in Pacifica, City Arms, whom I've also used to buy guns from in the past).

Has anybody done a long gun PPT at City Arms?

Has anybody been denied a long gun PPT at City Arms?

As a plug, we do PPTs all the time and good (or bad) our safes aren't haven't been completely full in awhile.

If you ever decide to drive down to Fremont (I realize it's far) just setup an appointment with us: sales@ugimports.com

Thanks UGI, probably won't make it down to Fremont for this transfer since the seller is north of me (further away from Fremont), but would be interested in your take on this...

Do you feel, as an FFL, it's your obligation to process all PPT's (obviously not counting things like suspected illegal transfers)?

Yup - I earn the business of MANY customers that come in for PPTs. I have some that travel from San Francisco (not super far), Manteca, Monterey, Half Moon Bay, and Lathrop.

Not all of those I found from PPTs, but many times the other party of the PPT learns about us from an existing customer. Assuming we're not too far out of their way (and sometimes we are) they enjoy the service that we eventually see them again. Some customers we only see for PPTs which is fine too.

Obviously I'd be hosed if all we did are PPTs, but as of now we probably only do an average of 1-2 per week.

My only gripe about PPTs is I wish that everyone gave us a heads up when they're coming in. I don't mind the drop in for 1 firearm, but if you have multiples and multiple buyers a heads up would be nice. There are plenty out there who have called and said they're coming in and you get the thumbs up. But I have had the few who show up with guns for 5 different people. I think one day we did something like 20 firearms with multiple buyers. The seller was here for about half the day. Just a reminder for those out there reading this please call your FFL if you are doing something. Give them a heads up. Its appreciated so much for those of you out there who take the 1 minute to call us and say "hey I'm dropping by at 3:00 for a PPT"

Some shops realize this and profit from it . I have been at a shop selling a pistol to a person that also bought 2k+ pistol out of the shops case. I also have bought other guns while doing a ppt.

Shops the refuse the ppt that claim it costs them money , takes up to much time for such little money are loosing business period.
There are some vendors here i have watched complain about ppt over the years and guess what , my buying of tens of thousands of dollars worth of products a year never found its way into their stores.

I recently did a pistol ppt at City Arms East and saw the no long guns ppt sign and thought to myself this isn't going to go well for them but hey its their business to risk the DOJ issues with and loss of revenue. BTW , it wasn't busy in there the last few times i went in so maybe their safe really is full.
