I live in an area that does not have the mail delivered to the street address so everyone is required to have a PO Box to get mail. That PO Box is on my Drivers License so I can get my registration.
I purchased a handgun a few months ago and everything was going great until I showed that CA Drivers License. The gun store said I had to have a government agency document with my street address. Not for proof of residency - that was something else which I had that did work for that purpose but not to replace the Govt ID.
He suggested the registration for my car. That too had my PO box. He suggested LA DWP but although I was purchasing in LA, I don't live in LA so the department of water and power was not applicable to me.
The guy at the gun store said I had to go on line with the DMV and change my address and print every page of that address change. I tried that but the DMV would not accept it and said to call.
So I go to the DMV and call the gun store while I am there. The dmv could print out my whole driving record which included my street address. I asked if that would work and the guy had to call the doj. They said that would work if I got the DMV to stamp it. The lady looked at me like I was crazy - I just shrugged and said something about bureaucracies and I think she understood.
Anyway, that worked for that gun. However, I am going to purchase another handgun after I get my CCW this week. Is there anything in your collective knowledge that I can do to make that run smoother? Any advise is appreciated.
