An email from CDCR states that it is a 52 year old 26-year officer. Riverside PD arrested two suspects.

I'm hearing that he was off duty but in uniform. Im always seeing CDC guys in uniforms driving their pov's. Ive talked to some and theyve told me the reason they go to and from work in uniform is because they dont have locker rooms to change out in. I dont think most, if any, carry off duty either.

Working and living off of the 80, I see half jump suits and cover shirts all the time. I hope those Officers can get lockers for those uniforms.

OMG.. I am so sorry to see this on the news today. Does anyone know the officer or family? Perhaps we can do something to help. I know cash is tight for everyone right now but there's always other nice things to do such as donating time, food, medical supplies or doing a simple errand for the family...

I personally do not know the officer, but I am part of a group on Facebook which includes CO's from all across the state. The word is that Officer Denny is in stable condition and he will make it. It does make it tough to go to and from work without standing out while in uniform, even if you do have a cover on. The green pants and black boots aren't exactly fashionable and I'm pretty sure every parolee out on the streets can recognize it.

On another note, the two suspects in custody are AB109 kick-outs. Meaning they were released from prison due to the fact that they were "non-violent" inmates.

Ah, good ol' AB109... Making streets less safe since 2011. I love the quote on CDCR's website:

That is great news and thanks for the update.

I always have wondered why they are dressed in uniform, cover shirt or jacket notwithstanding. I wasn't not aware, until this thread, they are not provided lockers. That is unfortunate and what is more unfortunate is it probably won't change.

My former dept. provides lockers at the jails and it always made me shake my head when I'd see deputies arrive and go home in uniform with only a jacket over their shirt. One can't always expect they will be able to drive straight home since car trouble can occur.

If there are any jail deputies from any dept. reading this thread, please take note of this terrible incident and wear your civilian clothes to and from work if you have a locker.
