Home Made Take-down Recurve (SKI BOW) : Second attempt,(added sight, more pics)
VERY FIRSTLY, I'd like to thank those who gave me the Idea and inspiration, from both Instructables, and Youtube.
http://www.instructables.com/id/Make...bow-from-skis/ __________________________________________________ ____________ __________________________________________________ ____________ So my original attempt met catastrophic failure. I re-worked it, and here are the results: 58.5" bow, #38.5, shooting #40 arrows (my draw length is 28") My archery teacher won't let me use it in class, because for some reason she is biased against Homebrew... I even signed a waiver The changes I made: Red oak instead of poplar (and cut from a different angle to promote strength) Waxed b50 Dacron Flemmish twist bow string (10 strand, Nylon serving) instead of construction line string Trimmed the ski's shorter, and used a longer riser, more linear riser design Trimmed the ski's to be more narrow and generally bow-limb like Reinforced the tips of the ski's with 1/4" ABS formed to the curve to help with a nice strong, round notch for the string to sit in. Added a stick-on arrow rest Still to do: Sight Added, pics coming soon And finally, some pictures: :0 Im not THAT skinny (camera was being buggy) (a bit better after I fixed it)

Just for the record the "ski's" are called "limbs" in the archery world.
Nice job. I'm glad you went with the b50...you could actually go up to 14 strands if you need to for a 40 lb bow.

The guide I was reading said that a 10 strand was sufficient to 50, but I agree that overkill (doesn't often) hurt anyone. It has been holding up well so far. I'll keep you all updated as I finish it. And Kes, thanks, but it wasn't my idea originally The final taper on the limbs is 3/4", down from 2 1/3"

Update, added the arrow rest (again), and the brass bead at the nocking point. Working on a bow sight.

Your bow is coming together nicely. Well done!
I would have waited on adding the nock point till you've shot it. You may have to move it if your arrows start porpoising. btw, you don't *need* a brass nock point. You can get the same affect by winding common thread on the nock point and locking it down with fletching glue. The brass nock ring will work nice but I just wanted to point out an alternative.

they are thumbnails to ease thread loading time, and bandwidth for some people. if you click them, they get bigger
Also, shot it a bit last night. After working for a while trying to make a sight mount, I finally gave up for the time being, and settled on 12 ga galv wire with a loop to screw the sight into. worked fine.
