LASD and the .40 s&w

My Dept issued 92F got these updates as well. The only duty ammo ever fired through my Beretta was the few boxes I paid for and shot out of my own pocket to make sure the round reliably fed in my weapon (It does 100% by the way).

All department shooting, qualifying, etc on duty has been with plain, cheap, white box range ammo (Usually Winchester).

Most of my rounds were training ammo too, but I would often visit the range and get some old duty ammo that had been turned in and shoot that whenever possible just for practice. I don't know how many thousands of rounds have been down the pipe of my county issue 92f, but it is probably close to 25K, and I've never had a single malfunction with it. I would sometimes go thru 500 rponds in one range trip with friends. We would load magazines until we had blisters on our fingers.

The Beretta is an outstanding firearm. I'm glad I was able to buy mine when I retired.

Indeed. I have moved on from the Beretta, but it is an old warhorse and has never, ever malfunctioned ever. Mine has far more surface wear from holstering and banging against car doors than the internals have, despite thousands and thousands of rounds. When the time comes, I will buy it. The old girl deserves a place of honor in the safe, not to be throw onto some scrap heap in logistics hell.

I too, like Ron, bought both the service revolver and Beretta issued to me when I retired. I wish I had worked long enough to have been on when the Beretta was serviced by the armorer with the new springs, etc. I only use it now as a range gun. Since it was issued to me in early 1989, it has never malfunctioned and I have put 1000s of rounds thru it also; both factory and practice.

I've seen it happen on multiple occasions.

Add that to the lack "superior" performance over the 9mm, it doesn't merit adding another caliber. LASD has had outstanding performance from the 9mm with the Ranger T series rounds. If it ain't broke.......

Oh, does anyone know what is lapd issuing nowadays, last i heard they went back to glock 17 from glock 22 (some problems with the gen4?). Is that permanent? and rumor about how they might go to M&P, but rumors are rumors.

by the time youre done with babysitting duty in county or wayside the'll have the M&P's online.

i would rather carry a .40 myself too, but i bet thats gonna be the least of the headache the LE beauracracy is gonna give you if you do get hired.

Regarding the .40, it isn't a magic round. My son-in-laws department uses the .40 and they hit a cop killer with two in the head. One round was at close range and right between the eyes. Suspect is still alive.

There are no magic bullets out there.

Did the round penetrate perpendicular to his face or tumble around under his facial skin before settling in between the eyes? lol

The hit was square on, right between the eyebrows. None of the guys could believe he survived. He has serious brain damage and will be a drain on the prison system medically for the rest of his veggie life.

The officer he killed, Brad Jones, was a friend and partner of my son in law, who was off the day Brad was killed. I met him once about two months before he was killed. I was very impressed and he showed a lot of promise as a police officer.
