I have't read the entire thread, nor do I intend to, the first few posts covered the legal definitions, which is you ask me are pretty straight forward.
From my experience, on one of my old cars I had my front windows tinted, pretty damn dark at that. I was pulled over for speeding by CHP, and at the same time cited for the front windows being tinted. The officer said that most people think its a safety thing for LEO, which he said is somewhat true but the real reasoning is that if you cannot see through your windows at night, you can't clearly see a person or thing as you are in an intersection. It's true, and I can totally understand. With that said the officer also told me that if he can see through the window, tint or not, he and fellow officers usually don't give a crap about tint.
