What do you mean by use of force training? You mean F.A.T.S. or dtac? Arrest and control? Range qual? Use of force is a whole lot of things. Bigger departments often dont have the resources to train 10xxx officers several times a year.

What department and what kind of force training/how many hours? The more the better!

Perishable Skills training shall consist of a minimum of 12 hours in each 2 year period.

This looks more like a WitnessLA forum than a gun forum. What happened to the unintentional discharge rate discussion?

Camaroguy, why won't you just tell us what department you worked for? I don't see a need for that to be uber confidential. Your answers and evasion make it look like you've got a lot more to hide than to give as far as information goes.

A lot of the hostility centers around your emotional and personal attacks coupled with your evasiveness.

Yes they do. Posts have been deleted, warnings pm'd and some have been banned from the leo forum and some even banned from Calguns. This has occurred to both active and retired leos. The need for such action has been, thankfully, minimal.

Actually, that hasn't happened in this thread once.
It has now that I've read this thread and two others he made comments in. He will no longer be visiting the leo forum for the foreseeable future.

Since that is the case, let's please return to the topic of this thread as posted by Rico911. Thanks.

Some LEOs have AD/ND no matter what weapons system they were trained with. I know a deputy who AD/ND his revolver and lost a finger.

The bottom line is everyone has to be careful and remember the four cardinal rules of firearm safety.

                      Let's end it here.

Yep, it's unfortunate but it happens, we can all just hope we don't have that momentary lapse that results in an ND
A new trigger pull can be tough, I know transitioning from my glock to LCP is awful, LCP to glock is worse, I almost always fire off a round while simply taking out the 20 pound inch of slack (seems like) on the LCP and I actually have the glock in my hand, throws things off a bit
Not sure the officers having these issues should have had fingers on the triggers in a couple cases, (one of those four rules) but don't know how those folks train either
Well it seems they are enforcing more training which is good
It does sound as if they (public relations folks) are making excuses, and blaming the switch, I find it hard to believe lasd employed officers that had to use 2 fingers to operate SA for the first shot, in 2012, none involved the MP, 2013 8 out of 18 didn't involve mp, 2014 8 of 30 didn't, over the 3 year period 1/2 didn't involve MPs, so it begs the question, what is the real problem, how can you blame a new gun when half the issues didn't involve the new gun

In order to have an ND, one or more of the 4 safety rules were violated.

                            Complacency kills.

That is the cause of AD's / ND's. When LEO's are handling firearms day in and day out, holstering, unholstering, into the gun locker, out of the gun locker, there are lots of opportunities to get sloppy and launch an errand round.

While the handler is 100% responsible for his actions, I would posit the following: I have seen posts across different threads where non-LEO's ridicule LEO's who AD/ND as buffoonish clowns with poor training and no business carrying a firearm.

The holier than thou private gun owner / self-proclaimed operator may have horrible gun safety habits as well, but since they are transporting firearms unloaded and cased to and from their range visits, their own crappy habits just get less opportunities to manifest into an actual AD / ND. And when they do, no one cares because it isn't newsworthy unless the round hits someone.

I would think most AD/ND by non LEO are not reported so not investigated. All LEO AD/ND are reported and investigated.

We have ~2000 sworn members. Our use of force is 8 hours, it covers classroom stuff (gun safety, current case law, etc), and range time. Duty gun 30rds, off-duty 10rds, rifle 10rds, shotgun 4rds.
