Navy working uniform. Blue camo?

The "poopie" suits on subs were easy to wash and they dried quickly. MUCH more quickly than the dungarees, or utilities when I was in. Laundry run time is a big deal when you only have one or maybe two washers and dryers for the entire crew.

Another thing for electricians was poopie suits didn't turn white if you got battery acid on them. Not like you need camo on a submarine.

I only have one history lesson to add:

The dungarees AKA poopie suits were once the official uniform for prison convicts, the only differences were there was a number and we had a name stenciled on our shirts. Navy people were stopped many times for fear of a prison escapee, and fired upon at times, so the Navy adopted the policy of no uniforms off base and later only brief stops.

The only time I can think of that uniforms are the same (roughly) across services is when the uniform actually matters. With multicam, the camouflage actually needs to work, not just look nice or have some heritage BS that both the Marines and Air Force incorporate in their uniforms (for the record I have only seen ABU's work when the individual is laying down on gravel - it's worthless). With flight suits, there is a need to not have your clothes become a second layer of skin, and all fliers (and then some) across the services use mostly the same uniform.

Personally I think the sheer variety is a waste of money and the only reason why some exist is purely sentimental. For the Air Force I think there should only be three uniforms, flight suits, some sort of camo (preferably multicam in a useful cut) and service dress.

I don't get it first the marines will not share then the army goes to ACU that now its looking to replace then the USAF goes to ABU like that is so much different then ACU and now the Navy has completely lost its mind. At least ACU does an ok job what is the Navy thinking about going with blue?

Multicam creates a shadow line at long range open field and is too dark on the side the sun is not hitting in desert and too light in woodland and forget urban. It works best in high desert or places that look like Afgan marpat is way better. UCP was made for long range urban/ desert and most places while viewed at long range not against a green background have u ever seen it at say 500 meters?

MARPAT is definitely the most effective pattern we've managed to outfit, service wide. This is just my opinion, though it is an educated one. I remember driving through MCB Camp Pendleton at night a few years back and nearly running over a few Marines because I had not seen them in their desert digis until I was a few feet away. I thought they'd flip out on me, but when we talked they mentioned that it happened on occasion. I guess those glow belts really do save lives.

I always thought dungarees were the coolest uniform in the military. and by far the most comfortable. during working hours and underway coveralls ruled. I do understand the Navy changing up though, they had to do something to make it more "cool" to get recruitment up.

Multicam? Um...where? We only have two main working uniforms. The standard blue ODU and if your deployed overseas, the old desert camo. A few of the specialized deployable units wear flight suits, but thats it. I've never seen any Coastie wear multicam.... Unless it was a non-rate wearing coveralls with so much paint, grease and dirt on them they blended in with our Cutters!

Marpat is the best camo out and UCP/ACU for urban the solution is in front of everyone's face share camo between services

Interesting thread -- times do change - but, how can you have a Navy without a flat hat? --
E-5 in an E-1 to 7 Navy.

Why does the navy need camo? I understand boots on ground seals and so on but guys on ships orange is the way to go. Man over board! Where? Right there in the orange!

When I was in Bahrain last month I saw a bunch of Navy cats in bright green jungle digital...in the desert. There was a Naval detachment there that was wearing modified desert Marpat as well, it looked to be a little darker and with more velcro. The lime green jungle's were a first for me.

ahh so thats what branch the blue camo is from!, we saw two earlier come into work and we were like "what branch is that"

i laughed and said "probably coast gaurd?"
