Army dumping M9?????

The only viable option I think that would make sense is with the FNP or the HK USP. Both would be about the same cost as other brands and fill the need for an external safety/de-cocker the the Army likes. Both are tough, reliable and very simple. Glock would work as well but I see the lack of a traditional safety as being the limiting factor.

wouldnt suprise me since the M9 was picked for political reasons and lobbying, not becuase the army thought it was the best.

I dont see them leavig the 9mm as it is a standard NATA round.

I actually really like the M9, except that I think the safety should be a decocker. The problem is really poor PMI. And people with little girly hands.

LOL, yeah that could be a problem, but I think a redesign fixed that and there is a redundancy now to prevent the slide from entering your head (which apparently happened at least once).

Oh, and I hate the 9mm ball round, but you can't blame the pistol for that.

As you all know, the 92FS is the equiv of an M9. The 'S' stands for slide stop. Beretta just enlarged the hammer pin head and ground a slot in the slide to act as a catastrophic failure' backup.

And there are shooters out there with 100k rounds through these guns, only replacements being trigger and slide springs.

Military wont have anything polymer, or anything other than 9mm. I would like to see the day when the military starts stocking .40sw.

I'm still of the opinion that more rounds give the shooter more chances to get it right then fewer bigger rounds.

It's also a heavy gun for a 9mm. They should go back to the 1911 again or a 40 cal, glock 22 or M&P. The M9 pistol i used to qualify at the range with, just jammed all the time.

While I agree, it'll only make a difference (terminal wound ballistics-wise) with hollow-point ammo, regardless of the caliber, yet the DOD can't seem to fit their heads around that concept...and I'm a big fan of the 1911 anyway...
