I'd be most worried about getting your leg healed up right and getting your weight up.

I've never been in the military so feel free to ignore me, but the commmon report is that lots of people lose quite a bit of weight and go down due to injury at bootcamp. Your low weight makes you a high % candidate for injury due to stress and weight loss I'd bet.

Chill out, I am not sure why you wouldn't take the advice of those here who have been in. Are you surprised you are getting flack for your spelling and grammar, is this not the internet?
If it was a snake, it would have bit me.

That's what John Kerry thinks, the military is for losers. Don't prove him right. Also, discipline comes from within, if you are joining the Army for some discipline in your life, you may be in for a sad 4 years. Go ahead and try it, you may turn your life around but don't be surprised if the Army doesn't do anything for you because you didn't put much effort into it.

ASVAB score of 55 is probably okay for some things, like Infantry right? In 1992 I was going to join USAF and scored 90, but they couldn't guarantee me the slot I wanted in spite of earlier conversations with the recruiter who said if I scored "good" I would get what I wanted. I ended up not signing up.

Although in retrospect if I HAD gone in anyway and followed the path I wanted and gone through OCS I'd be at least Captain by now. But then I wouldn't have met my wife and had 2 great kids.

        Life is funny that way.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but you need a high school diploma or a GED and as several of our servicemen on this board pointed out you need strong english skills and be smart. The military isn't so black and white, it is easier to get into some MOSs and harder to get into others. You just told us you didn't pass high school, you are a former user, and your posting is full of grammer errors and spelling errors, how did you expect us to respond to wanting to join intel?

I have heard that so many times from the druggies at my school and I never understood it. So do we draw a line between what is safe and what is unsafe with cigarettes? We can always find something more unsafe, how they compare to cigarettes is hardly the issue.

Regardless of what I think, the fact that is undisputable is you want to join a government organization that makes an oath to uphold and defend this country and you can't even follow our laws that the country has. Instead you attempt to deflect the topic by bringing up things that aren't illegal in this country or people worse then you.

              Where to start....

Cavtrooper is a great guy. He helped me out a ton and he was part of my deciding factor to go active duty. He talked to my recruiter and well kind of a long story short, got me a good recruiter and everything worked out great. I graduated basic training about a month ago and I am at AIT right now.

If you are injured don't even try because it will get much much worse. In basic training you will march for miles and miles with a heavy ruck sack on. Our longest march was 12 miles and it was after being in the field for 7 days. Being in the field, you get almost no sleep and you are on patrol or some sort of mission or guarding something all day and all night long. So imagine that for 7 days and then you have to march for 12 miles. At Fort Benning there is a huge hill called the stairway to heaven and it will kick you ***.

If you do end up getting in with an injury and you end up getting med boarded, (kicked out due to medical issues) you will be there for a long time before you get sent home. There was a guy in my platoon at basic that was getting medically discharged around the 3rd week of basic. When we graduated he was still there waiting for his orders to leave.

If you have done drugs in the last year or three you probably wont be able to get the security clearance you need to be MI. With a score of 55 you probably don't even qualify. 55 is piss poor. I have been out of high school for 4 years and I a got an 88 and it took me 15 minutes to take. All my line scores were over 127. 25U is the MOS that I am. It is communications. We are in charge of making sure the communications systems are up and running. I could get put with just about any kind of unit. So, you may want to stay away from something that requires anything over a secret clearance with you past. There are a lot of people that do drugs in the Army. When I was going through reception at basic, there were some privates there that used to be sergeants but got caught smoking weed. They were stuck at reception doing very pointless tasks and it was in the middle of the night when I ran into them so they probably have the overnight shift.

They also randomly drug tested half of my company yesterday morning. They said if anyone comes up hot, they are done.

If you are serious about joining, get in shape and gain some weight. Eat three - five solid meals a day. Work out everyday. Run and run some more. In basic you probably wont run that much but when you do you run your *** off so make sure you can run. You do not want to be the guy that falls out of every run. Make sure you can do push-ups and sit-ups.

Basic is pretty tough. You got your feathers ruffled just from this message board. If that is how you react, you are going to have fun at basic. There is a guy in my class right now and he keeps getting pissed off when people make fun of him so he gets made fun of all the time. Everyone makes fun of each other in the Army so it makes it that much more fun to make fun of him. He almost started a fight with our instructor today.

If you are serious, talk to Cavtrooper. He is a good guy.

I spent all my 8 years in the Intel field. I didn't know you could get a job in Intel with an asvab score as low as 55. Times have changed, apparently. Good luck.

You sound kinda like this guy that was in my MEPS group. Bent back, smelled of weed, messed up leg and had warts all over his feet.

Needless to say I avioded where he walked.

55 is pretty low but hes qualified.

Get off the drugs!!!! Seriously man, I dont want some druggie covering my 6

You don't join the mankiller team looking to "learn" discipline. You go in with an understanding of it and have it honed down further. If an anonymous internet message board can get you riled up and say "F it", basic will be fun. If you gain a new contract and take a slot for Airborne and then Ranger school and somehow make it that far, expect worse than anything that can be said here. It's not a place to go if your a person who takes offense easily. I wish you well on your effort to stay clean.

I don't know, it has been years since I took the ASVAB and I do not recall it being that tough. My 21 year old kid just took it stone cold without so much as an ounce of preperation and he got an 85 and is currently getting his nuts busted in boot camp at Ft. Jackson S. Carolina. He ended up going with a 37B, Intel Analyst MOS. The guy who suggested you spend 6 months making a commitment to getting your collective crap together sounds like he has a pretty good idea. Aside from putting the bong down you might want to consider some night classes in basic english, your grammar is atrocious.
