He did not go through FFL (I checked my books for him, I did not handle the transfer) so it was probably a simple buddy donation.

He has the Mini 14 bullet buttoned, etc. but when reviewing the registration form he is not sure what to put in for date of acquisition, and saw no clearcut way to complete the question about where he acquired it from or does it matter that he didn't go through an FFL? He's worried that since he didn't process it through me or any other FFL that DOJ might nail him.
He'll just need to put his best guesses for all those items - DOJ has no way to verify any of it, so as long as it's his best estimate he could come up with, DOJ will just have to go with it.

I would put the deceased friend's name, and whatever his address was (or a best estimate of his address), and a best guess for the date, like 7/1/2000.

Make a note in the comments that the "acquisition information is a best estimate; the exact information could not be found."

Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

Last night their system apparently went down just as I was submitting. There are no traces whatsoever in cfars of the two applications I submitted, but the $15 credit card charge went through.
And today the system seems to be done... What a pile of junk.

Has anyone registered an Atlantic Firearms SGL? For country of origin, is that Russia or US since they are remanufactured in Las Vegas?

Not Atlantic Firearms SGL, but did Rifle Dynamics RD501 and RD701. Both are engraved "Rifle Dynamics Las Vegas NV" but as the original Izhmash Saiga markings are still there, it was much more straight forward for me to use the original Russian manufacturer and model in the reg process.

Applied 2 applications. All firearms in first application received "Email Submission Confirmation Notice.....results via U.S. mail" on June 14. The second application is all related to Joint Registration which is idle since early May. AM I supposed to receive the official approval letter for the first application? Or One official approval letter for 2 applications?

That is a very good trend on the first application. You may get your approval letter soon.

Was the second application you are referring to actually sent earlier in May? Any Incomplete Notices from DOJ on this submittal?

The first letter will have firearms from the first approved application. The second letter will have firearms from both applications.

Yes, the 2nd application sent in on May 3rd and heard nothing back from DOJ. No kick back no incomplete just idle.

The 1st application had 3 kick back and I corrected it within 45 min.

Hoping to get the letter before JULY 1ST. Is it normal to take much longer time process for JOINT REGISTRATION?

When did you submit this one?

Decent chance on your 1st application, I'd say. Otherwise, just separate lowers from uppers, or remove bolts until you get the letter.

My very first application in late April had bunch of kick backs and I couldn't correct it for a week as I was on vacation in Hawaii. Finally got the letter last Friday. Eight weeks from initial submission to letter.

My fourth application earlier this June had zero kick backs (yes, practice makes perfect!) and I had the letter in hand in 8 days after submission.

I'm still waiting on the second and third submissions still.

We both submitted our 1st application within only a few days different. Did your 2nd and 3rd application involve yourself not Primary user on JOINT REGISTRATION?

All of them are joint registration. No letters for the joint registrants yet

how much do i have to disasemble

what can I do to my currently legal ar15 to make it not a firearm, and store the components legally?

If i pull the upper and lower apart and remove the BCG and bag them will that make it legal to store?
or am I going to need to pull the trigger group and buffer tube.

Submission shows as Pending. Been that way from day 1. With no follow-up response from DoJ of any sort.

Out of curiosity, how does it simplify the CFARS application? It is not as if the forward grip makes the firearm illegal such as would a barrel length shorter than 16-inches. Or, raise a question as to the overall length.
