If you need a test its a grey area. Which means its unsettled law. In other words, you should not call it illegal with 100% certainty.

Bill is making sure no one becomes the test case because its not worth the trouble for such a mechanism.

First, I was being sarcastic about the test case, second if you're sure its legal walk right into the local PD and show it to them.

I use mine in AZ, because sometimes I don't feel like swapping out mag releases if I am just out there for a couple days of shooting. I never use them in CA, but they live in my shooting bag.

It doesn't matter what the PD says. It matters what the judge says. Ironically, these days, it wouldn't surprise me to hear a judge actually say that if it is a tool designed to press the button on the BB that it would be legal.

It could also go the other way.

I also think certain judges would not convict based on the letter of the current BB law. The legislature had its chance to ban the mag magnet but they didn't.

Good lawyering, common sense, and following the current law may make it legal in todays definition of a tool.

                Grey Area.

Lets have a little fun here.

What if the BB "button" was magnetized? BB's are legal per law and the courts. HMMMMM

I shoot in Arizona too, don't you worry in the least that you might forget and leave it in there when you come back? It's a straight up felony. 10 years in jail, lose all your gun rights for life, tens of thousands of dollars in legal fees, that sort of thing.

Stop! Give me an example of this kind of prosecution. Give me a court that has done this.

On the guns that I take back and forth, I actually have red tags that I hang around the barrel when they are in the safe. I check to make sure the gun is CA compliant before it goes into a case to come back home.

People have misused them and the vendors have a "wink and a nod" policy when selling them. I think Bill here is just trying to give clarity before someone gets hauled into court over them.

That's smart. I would hate to see you end up arrested for something so very stupid that shouldn't even be illegal in the first place.

Possession of the magnet and having that magnet put into the bullet button allowing for quicker detachment of magazines are 2 different areas. The Gray area is was referring to is where the magnet remains affixed to the rifle atop of the bullet button.

So far I haven't seen any court rulings on this and the advice I have gleaned from calguns is to stay away from having some sort of magnet device affixed to the bullet button.
