Basically the DROS fees are supposed to cover only the cost of gun sales and doing the background checks and maintaining the system. It's clear now that the fees are too high, because they have a surplus, and this bill will let them raid it for other departmental uses. It's basically becoming less of a cost-covering fee and more of a tax.

Of the bills that fell the way they did, this was better than other combinations.
The signing of SB610 was VERY important for CCW.
I'm confident Meg Whitman WOULD have signed the bills Brown did AND would also have signed the ammo bill (427) and would not have signed the helpful 610.
I can't believe that if we didn't have UOC drama and all UOCers were fully on the team, and knew when to STFU at the right time,
that we would not have had this problem. Threats to carry rifles were very unhelpful They are STILL unhelpful for other

Ya it makes no sense. Just because we have a system for HGs doesn't mean we should use one for LGs. They're very different animals, and DROS has been a pathetic waste, anyway.

Nice! The DROS raid is bad too.. may give them incentive to raise fees eventually. No?
Look at it this way.I see this as an overall win.
1. Ammo bill was vetod.
2. I don't see a con of the long gun registration, its going to be the same thing as handguns are currently.
3. By banning UOC we get LTC easier.
The only one I am unsure about is the DROS raid which I dont know why its bad.
Every time a gun transaction happens in California, $25 is charged for the state.
They can use the FBI system to free like every other state, but they would rather charge you $25 (even though it costs them less than that for their own system anyway). They could still do their 10 day wait and register guns without their $25 fee, but they do it.
Now all that money is sitting there. Now they're going to use it on things besides supporting the DROS system. It may give them a reason to increase the fee int he future? That is the only thing I fear. $25 is already too damn much. I bought three $100 guns last month and paid $100 for DROS/PPT. That is too much!Comment

This is good. They just admitted that it is no longer a cost covering fee and we can sue to drop the DROS fee.Basically the DROS fees are supposed to cover only the cost of gun sales and doing the background checks and maintaining the system. Lots of reasons.
Its the cheapest way to flood the system with registered long guns.
Its funny.
Most importantly, and as Bill explained in another thread discussing this matter, familiarity breeds contempt. Once officers spend enough time seeing damn near everyone's got a longgun registered to them it starts to make the system seem as dumb as it is.Originally posted by wildhawkerCalguns Foundation: "Advancing your civil rights, and helping you win family bets, since 2008."
