Or we can screw the whole registration regs by suing about discrimination against imaginary non-existent people who don't associate with any category. These jackasses created these "discrimination" laws. We should use it against them.

        Caliguy93.....

I don't want to wait either, but if something comes up, is it true the last date for AW registration has been moved to June 30, 2018? Is this from the CADOJ itself?

I've got a chunk of money tied up in 2 Vepr 12's, and don't want to be forced to get rid of them.

You have a page I scrolled down to for CFARS, is this where you start the registration process?

I got my Vepr's from an out of state dealer who of course sent them to an FFL here, so in terms of the registration, do I put the dealer or the FFL down as to who I bought the gun from?

Is the registration/serial # docs from the FFL required, or just filling out their forms on their website.

        Appreciate the help,

        Thanks

Yes, registration deadline is now 6/30/2018. A rider on the state's budget bill extended it.

You don't need the DROS form for your guns, you just need to have the info they ask you to fill in on the registration application.

There's a complete tutorial linked in my signature, with everything you need to know
Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

            M&P15 Sport II reg question.

I have an OEM (2016) S&W M&P Sport II AR-15 that I would like to sell.

Can I sell it just as if it was 2016 or must *I* first go through the registration process before selling? No modifications have been done. TIA

Ok thanks, I'll read every word of it.

I do have to ask...............is there any chance after the dust settles from this, that some court will reverse this? I don't have hopes for that, but still thought I'd ask.

              Again thanks for the info.

There's always a chance... there are 2 lawsuits regarding this. One seeks to get the whole Assault Weapons Control Act of 1989-2017 tossed out (it was filed a couple months ago, not much movement yet). The other seeks to get DOJ's 2017 Regulations tossed out (this one will be filed in the next few days).

Unfortunately, it could be years before we find out what the courts do.

I'm registering, with the hopes that if some of the registration scheme gets tossed out, I'll stand to benefit, whereas if I don't register, I can't benefit unless the entire AWCA gets tossed.

But I'm waiting a little while before I register, in case the courts issue a preliminary injunction against the current registration scheme.

Last date of registeration is July 1 2018. This means the firearm must have been approved through the registration process by then, not submitted... don't wait until may or June to submit... as one of the first to submit over a month ago, I still have not heard anything.. plan on 3-6 months time

Yes the cfars site is where u start... you will need the name and address of the FFL that did the Dros as well as the date you took delivery on your firearms.

No to sell it the firearm must be either disassembled so that it is. It a complete firearm (upper to buyer and dros only the lower should be fine, or you must make the firearm featureless (no pistol grip, no telescoping stock, no flashhider), or you must add a fixed mag device like the BB2.0

Registration is not required to sell it and is actually the opposite of what you want to do if your intention is to sell

I just registered two, guessed on the dates for purchase, I have no idea if I still have the docs showing when I bought them but I know the FFL and the month and year that the purchases happened, good enough I think.

Yep, good enough. They require an answer, and didn't give us an option to write "I don't know", so if we don't know, all we can do is take our best guess.

You can't sell it in it's current configuration.

Featureless, fixed mag, or disassembled are all ok.

Do you have a source regarding needing approval by then? Seems like they could make us all felons by not approving.

                              Yea the penal code

SEC. 2. Section 30680 is added to the Penal Code, to read:
                              30680.

Section 30605 does not apply to the possession of an assault weapon by a person who has possessed the assault weapon prior to January 1, 2017, if all of the following are applicable:

                              (a) Prior to January 1, 2017, the person would have been eligible to register that assault weapon pursuant to subdivision (b) of Section 30900.

                              (b) The person lawfully possessed that assault weapon prior to January 1, 2017.

                              (c) The person registers the assault weapon by July 1, 2018, in accordance with subdivision (b) of Section 30900.

As far as I know.. no one has successfully registered yet, only submitted the form to register

I used to think the same thing, but the consensus is that interpretation is not accurate, what matters is that DOJ receives your application before the deadline.

Kind of like (but I realize not exactly synonymous with) how your income tax filing isn't late, regardless of when it arrives at the IRS and gets processed, as long as it's postmarked before April 15th. The key factor being that YOU did YOUR job before the deadline.

I agree that the penal code wording is vague and open to interpretation, though. But hopefully the consensus opinion is correct. I believe CRPA's interpretation is also that the form just needs to be submitted before midnight on 7/1/2018.

Another reason that is the sensible interpretation, is because 7/1/2018 is a sunday. So if the deadline was for DOJ's actual approval of the registration, the deadline should have actually been June 29th.

If people catch felonies after trying to register before the deadline, because DOJ dragged their feet approving the registration and it turns out the deadline was actually for approval rather than submission, there are going to be big problems for everyone, especially DOJ.

Next time someone speaks with DOJ on the phone, we should ask them this exact question, to settle this once and for all. Maybe even get the answer in writing (I know I know, never going to happen...)
