WHat to put in my 48hour bag?

I am now in the process of filling my 2200ci bag, I am going to put a thermal, jacket, pair of socks and boxers plus toothbrush and some toothpaste. I was thinking of putting in a Jetboil with 4 or so Mountain House types of food plus some snacks. A Lifestraw or equivalent, matches/windproof lighter w/cotton balls soaked in petroleum jelly. A small first aid kit till I get the one I really want with the correct training. Some 45acp ammo and not sure what else.
I'll also have a water bladder with a gallon or more of water. I want to be able to survive for 2-3 days on this till say I get home.

I have never built a 48hr/BOB so I am not sure if this is correct. Just thinking what I would want in there that is probably necessary like food, water, change of some clothes, etc. Also will add 550 paracord.

Whats in your 48hr bag and how many CI is yours?

If its 2-3 days maybe some tp/baby wipes, disinfectant. I don't have change of cloths in my bob, just a couple pairs of socks, and dry bags. I'd say ditch the stove and keep lighter or magnesium striker. And try to eat prepackaged ready to go stuff that doesnt need to be cooked. 1 metal cup and spork. Carrying cook ware starts really upping the weight. waterproof overpants/jacket. Mine from Sierra Design crush up into a ball about the size of my fist., and way next to nothing. Id say keep light as you can, don't think back packing.

Cash, map, 2 flash lights, A ziplock bag with the phone numbers/address of loved ones. Compass if you plan to venture away from your area, and then learn how to set up an azimuth. You have the survival straw, I assume you have a nalgene bottle too right? A good buck knife. I think thats a heavy pack at that point.

The sticky reads like a phone book and I don't blame you for trying to cut to the chase.
      48 hour bag for one?
*I change from winter gear to summer gear during the year as needed. That way I
update and make sure everything is ready/working condition.
Don't think overnight bag. Think bare minimum.
      Ditch toothbrush/paste. Pack floss.
Pack snacks and not meals. Only 2 days remember.
H2O and synthetic sponges to gather more. Water purification tablets. Coffee filters.
Ability to make fire. Too many to list.
Big black trash bags and dry bags for all your gear to go inside the pack. 100% water proof and makes pack float if needed. Mine does.
DUCT tape and some cordage of your choice.
      Safety pins.
Headlight with red filter + extra batts.
      Aluminum foil.
Swiss pocket knife, multi-tool and utility knife (box cutter).
You can go 2 days with the same clothes provided you haven't shat yourself. :0
We can go on and on here.
If you are realistically out of shape then keep the weight down around 25-30 lbs to give yourself a chance. If you're in shape then you'll be faster and less tired. WIN!

Ditch the Mountain House and stove and replace them with lifeboat rations. Add in 3-4 Cyalume SnapLights, and a great flashlight (with a set or two of spare batteries) because light and food will do wonders for your morale.

Boxers aren't great for long hikes (they ride up) so consider boxer briefs, and a change of socks, a stuffable but warm water resistant jacket (maybe attached to the outside of the pack), an emergency poncho, and a disposable bivvy bag. Instead of starting a fire in a fire hazard area I keep chemical pocket/hand/foot warmers.

With food and comfort taken care of then all that you really need is water. I keep a couple of gallons in the car, and a LifeStraw water filter in my GHB, plus a sponge, fold away funnel, a couple of coffee filters (to strain out dirt), and water treatment tablets to refill my GHB's 100oz water reservoir.

Finally, I keep a 15,000mAh external battery/cellphone charger for such emergencies, just be sure to top it off regularly - even if you never use it. Because they do go dead on their own.

Can opener, unless your knife(s) can do double duty. (I keep a of P-38 opener (1962 C-Rations) on my key fob---makes a good screw driver to.

Have a lot of this stuff now, I bought the Jetboil and 3 of the freeze dried foods to try out. I might not carry the Jetboil as it does take up room. Ill have to think that one out. I will be adding my soft shell jacket, thermals and socks/boxers or boxer briefs.
I need a flashlight and possibly a light the goes on the head for night time.
I do have the survival straw and Nalgene bottle. Have a good folding knife and a fixed blade too. I need to add cotton balls in petroleum jelly and a compass with topo/regular maps.
At this point it will be heavy enough I might have to pare the pack down if I think it is too heavy.

IDK if anyone said this ..But SHOES..Comfortable shoes that you can walk a long way in. SHF scenario, roads may be hard to pass, you may need to hump it home..& extra pair of socks..Along with some of the other good ideas..Ounces = Lbs. ..LBS=Pain..If you own a 9mm, you may want to trade the 45 acp ammo for 9mm..

Why? I saw the sawyer mini today but didnt know anything about it. I like having doubles and tripples of stuff so maybe Ill pick that up next time I go back to REI.

Saw the review on prepforshtf.com and I will be adding a Sawyer Mini to my BOB. Ill keep the Lifestraw as I already have it but I really like the fact I can add the Sawyer Mini to my water bladder. Pretty nice. Ill use the Lifestraw in my Nalgene bottle as it should suit it fine.

The Nikes that I have been wearing all summer are really comfortable. That being said I have a pair of Merrell boots that are SUPER comfortable. I could wear them all day every day and walk distance in them if need be. I just dont carry them in my truck, they are at home in my closet with my long(er) term BOB.

I will also have a pair of my wool, compression socks in the bag.

Not to disregard all the other stuff....but I put a little spring-loaded umbrella behind the seat in my truck. Along with all the other stuff.
